The NFL’s sixth week kicked off Thursday with an NFC East battle. Now, with two Monday night games and two teams on a bye, there are 12 games on the Sunday slate. Which of them are worth your time? Below are the five I’m most excited to see.
Early Games:
Cleveland Browns (1-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)
About: Divisional battles are always fierce. The Steelers, in first place by a fair amount, are coming off a bye week. The Browns, fresh off a trip to London, are starting a rookie. On paper, this looks a little lopsided. But, again, division battles are always tough. This could have some hidden intrigue.
Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1)
About: This is one of only a couple games on the Sunday slate that feature winning teams. The Seahawks have been good, and they’re getting the offense rolling. But losses to the 49ers and the Buccaneers have them looking to make a move. The Jaguars, meanwhile, have been a strong surprise. They’re fresh off a win over the Chiefs and looking for more on a short week. This should be fun.
Los Angeles Rams (3-2) at Baltimore Ravens (1-4)
About: This is another one that could be a laugher. But I’m not ready to bury the Ravens—yet. Lamar is likely out again, which isn’t great. But the Ravens should be desperately trying to avoid falling to 1-5 before the bye week. The Rams, meanwhile, could be 5-0 with a bit better luck in key spots. They should be pressing for a big road victory.
Late Games:
San Francisco 49ers (4-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1)
About: Despite a variety of injuries, the 49ers have just kept winning. The Buccaneers, meanwhile, have relied on a near-MVP performance from Baker Mayfield to jump out to a hot start. This is a huge matchup with big ramifications for the NFC playoff picture. This could be THE best matchup on the Sunday slate.
Sunday Night Game:
Detroit Lions (4-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)
About: After a Week 1 blip, the Lions are soaring. The Chiefs, meanwhile, are reeling. If the defending AFC Champions want to make another run, they need to get back on track. A Sunday night game in Prime Time is a great way to announce their return. The Lions, meanwhile, have won four straight and the offense is humming. A win in Kansas City Sunday night would be a big step toward the future.
