Three years is a long time. The last time we saw the folks in Severance was during the explosive first season finale on April 8, 2022. The series was a winter hit that year that carried it to a slew of Prime-Time Emmy Awards.

That cliffhanger to end the first season also had fans on edge waiting for the series to return. And wait we have. But on Friday, the wait is over. After nearly three years, we finally are getting answers as the second season, with 10 episodes, premiers. We’re getting just one episode per week and while it’s exceptional to have the show back, don’t expect answers to all your questions right away.

The first season ended with Mark S. (Adam Scott), Helly (Brit Lower), and Irving (John Turturro) all having their Innies brought to life in the outside world. It’s a time of discovery and big confrontations for all of them. This season picks up some time later and dives back into the world post those events.

I won’t spoil the specifics of the plot, but the first episode is quite the return and a good showcase for Scott, whose Mark S. is the first face we see. He has a strong episode as we return to the world and the aftermath of the season one events. It’s an interesting episode that might leave you with more questions than answers.

The second episode, which debuts on January 24, was one of my favorites. It does a great job of filling in some gaps and building momentum for the rest of the season. It’s worth the wait and figures to get plenty of fans talking.

Overall, Severance was one of my favorite series in 2022 and I’m thrilled to have it back. The early season two episodes show that while time has passed the momentum for the show hasn’t changed. If you were a fan of the show—or caught up during the protracted wait—you should be excited to make a return when the show debuts on Friday.

Severance season two debuts on Friday, January 17 on Apple TV+.
