We’re cruising to the end of 2024 and as we do, I’m looking back at some of my favorite films and performances from the year. As well as a few of my least favorite. Each day between now and January 9 look for another installment in a different category. Let’s ring out 2024 by looking back on some of the best and worst of the year!
I know this is about the best, but before I get to my favorites in TV and film, I want to offer my five worst films of the year.
No. 5: Night Swim
About: It was a great year for horror, but it didn’t start incredible. This was the first wide release of 2024, and it was a doozy. I remembered it all year, but not in a good way.
No. 4: AfrAId
About: I get it, we’re all weary of AI. That’s probably truer of Hollywood screenwriters than most. This film was something of a boring disaster.
No. 3: Camp Pleasant Lake
About: There was nothing pleasant about the visit to the lake in this horror film. Just dreadful.
No. 2: First Time Female Director
About: I think this was supposed to be satire, but it didn’t land. Neither did any of the humor here.
No. 1: Megalopolis
About: This was a big swing from Francis Ford Coppola. There are those that loved it. I did not. It was wild and wildly inconsistent, the most disappointing film of the year for me.
