We’re on to the final week of byes in the NFL Season. With six teams out and Prime Time games on Thursday and Monday, we only have 11 games on the Sunday slate. But it’s getting to be crunch time, which means some crucial matchups. Below are the five from the Sunday slate I’m most excited to see.
Early Games:
Atlanta Falcons (6-6) at Minnesota Vikings (10-2)
About: The Falcons are still on top in the NFC South thanks to a tiebreaker with the Buccaneers. But it hasn’t been pretty. Kirk Cousins has struggled mightily the past three games, throwing no touchdowns and six interceptions. The Vikings, meanwhile, have quietly had an incredible season, but trail the Lions in the NFC North. They want to keep winning to get the best seed possible. Oh, and this is a homecoming for former Vikings Cousins. This is one of the more intriguing games on the Sunday slate.
Cleveland Browns (3-9) at Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3)
About: The Browns only have three wins, but with Jameis Winston at the helm they’ve been fun to watch. They’re on a short week, coming off a brutal loss to the Broncos, but they beat the Steelers in the snow in Week 12. Can they get one over of the Steelers again? The Steelers, meanwhile, are holding a 1.5 game lead in the AFC North that could go to two full games with the Ravens on a bye if they win. The Steelers have aims to win the division and remain at home during the playoffs. To do that, they need to keep beating their division rivals.
Late Games:
Seattle Seahawks (7-5) at Arizona Cardinals (6-6)
About: This is a battle for first place in the NFC West. It’s also a re-match of a game the Seahawks won at home in Week 12 to move into first place. The Cardinals have lost two straight but could go right back on top with a win. The Seahawks, meanwhile, could move a step closer to winning the West with a win and a sweep over the Cardinals. This one has big playoff stakes.
Buffalo Bills (10-2) at Los Angeles Rams (6-6)
About: This is another game with big playoff stakes. The Bills beat the Chiefs head-to-head but still trail them by a game for the best record in the AFC. The Rams, meanwhile, are part of a logjam fighting for the NFC West crown. A win means big things to both teams in their quest for the post-season. This figures to be a fierce battle.
Sunday Night Football:
Los Angeles Chargers (8-4) at Kansas City Chiefs (11-1)
About: Two of the best teams in the AFC clash in a crucial divisional matchup. With a win, the Chiefs will all but secure the AFC West title and move closer to the No. 1 overall seed. The Chargers, meanwhile, still have an outside shot at the division. They’re also trying to maintain a lead over the Ravens for the top Wild Card spot. A win over the Chiefs on the road in Prime Time would go a long way toward establishing the Chargers’ playoff bonafides.
