This week of the NFL season kicks off with a doozy tonight as two reeling teams clash in New York. For the Texans, it’s being short-handed. Nico Collins is on IR and Stefon Diggs was lost for the season on Sunday. That leaves the 6-2 Texans woefully short at receiver. For the Jets, it’s just being mired in a losing streak.
The Jets are no 2-6 on the season, with any hope of a playoff berth fading from view. The team has lost five straight games—including three straight since firing coach Robert Saleh and the last two after trading for Davante Adams. Another loss Thursday would all but end their season.
For fantasy, C.J. Stroud is a QB2 for me this week. He’s missing a lot of weapons. But I like Joe Mixon as an RB1 and I like Tank Dell as a WR2. It’s time for Dell to step up. I also like Dalton Schultze as a high-end TE2 with some low-end TE1 upside. He was TE10 last year, and the Texans need him, badly. If you’re taking a flier on another receiver, I’m going with John Metchie. But really, I wouldn’t want to take a shot on anyone else on a short week.
For the Jets, Aaron Rodgers is a low-end QB2 for me. I wouldn’t blame you if you started someone else as it’s not a great matchup and Rodgers hasn’t been great. I like Breece Hall as a low-end RB1 and think he could be the best play for the Jets. Garrett Wilson is a high-end WR2, possibly in the WR1 range, while Adams feels more like a WR3 with upside. He’s getting targets but hasn’t produced much. Tyler Conklin is a boom-or-bust TE2 option.
