Wizards Beyond Waverly Place picks up years after Wizards of Waverley Place and follows Justin, played by David Henrie, who now has a wife and kids. When his sister Alex (Selena Gomez) brings Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) a wizard for Justin to take care of and teach, he soon realises that everything is not as it seems.

Wizards Beyond Waverley Place is a fun and engaging show; the cast has great chemistry throughout. The dynamic between the adult and child actors felt natural and worked well. I noticed clever similarities and characteristics between characters, especially Alex and Billie, as well as Justin and Roman Russo (Alkaio Thiele). What stood out to me about Billie is that she comes across as kinder and more caring than Alex was as a child, which adds a refreshing layer to her character.

Another thing I liked about this program is that it seemed to be getting ready for a continuous storyline instead of most episodes being one-off plots. When speaking with the cast and producer David Henri and Mimi Gianopulos, who played Giada Russo, they mentioned how easy it was to connect and bond with the younger cast members. From the start, it felt very organic, with everyone treated like family. The set culture was collaborative and joyful, with everyone looking for one another.

I have only seen 3 episodes, but I would have liked the comedy to have been a little more mature or aimed at slightly older people, as well as kids’ humor. I think the show could have had better comedy, but this could be improved as the episodes continue.

There’s excitement in seeing how the story unfolds, as the program will have higher stakes and more danger than the previous show. If you enjoyed the original, you will love Wizards Beyond Waverly Place!
