We get another double-header on Monday Night Football this week. I’ll have a preview of both Monday Night games below. But first, I’m going to look at a couple of takeaways from the rest of the Week 7 slate.
Then there was one
The Chiefs won the Super Bowl re-match 28-18 in San Francisco. That win combined with a loss for the Vikings leaves the Chiefs as the last and only unbeaten team left in the NFL. Despite a rash of injuries, the Chiefs just keep rallying, using their defense and an offense that’s good enough to get the job done. It’s an impressive run for a team focused on making history by winning a third straight Super Bowl.
The Lions keep rolling
Another week, another 30+ points and a win. The Lions are back in first in the NFC North—the best division in the NFL—with a 31-29 win over the previously unbeaten Vikings. The Lions look strong, with Jared Goff leading the way with a steady hand, Jahmyr Gibbs running hard, Amon-Ra St. Brown leading the receivers and the defense doing enough to win. The Lions are on a roll.
The Commanders are contenders
Don’t look now, but the Commanders are the first team in the NFC East to win five games. They’re now 5-2 and in good shape to make a playoff run, currently sitting in the top spot in the division. And they won 40-7 on Sunday even with Jayden Daniels going out early and Marcus Mariota stepping in. Dan Quinn has the Commanders playing well and looking toward the post-season.
And now, on to Monday Night Football.
Baltimore Ravens (4-2) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)
We have two games on Monday night, but this is easily the best. It features two teams fighting for the top spot in their division and looking to get to the playoffs. The Ravens have been dominating on the ground, while Baker Mayfield and the pass offense have been pacing the Buccaneers. Who will come out on top Monday?
For the Ravens, I’m starting Lamar Jackson as a QB1 and Derrick Henry as an RB1. Among pass catchers, I’m interested most in Zay Flowers, a low-end WR2. You can take a shot on Mark Andrews or Isaiah Likely, but either could disappoint you. Same with Rashod Bateman, who is a deep league flex.
For the Buccaneers, Mayfield is a high-end QB2 for me. I also like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans in the WR2 range. Cade Otton is a TE2 with some upside. The backfield is the real question, as Rachaad White, Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker are all expected to contribute. I guess I like White the best, but I’m not bullish on any of them until we see how this rotation works out.
I like the Ravens to win tonight.
Los Angeles Chargers (3-2) at Arizona Cardinals (2-4)
The other Monday night game features two mercurial teams where there are fantasy questions. For the Chargers, Justin Herbert is a QB2 for me. I like J.K. Dobbins as an RB2 and Kimani Vidal as a deep league flex. Among receivers, Ladd McConkey is the only one I’m starting Monday, and I like him as a flex play.
For the Cardinals, Kyler Murray is a QB2 also. In the backfield, James Conner is an RB2 thanks to volume and potential. In the passing game, I like Marvin Harrison, Jr. as a WR2 and Trey McBride as a play at tight end. Michael Wilson is a flex option for me.
I’m taking the Chargers in this one.
