The first Thursday Night Football game of the season was certainly surprising as we got two AFC East rivals clashing. This week, we also get two AFC East rivals clashing—this time the Patriots and the Jets. Both teams are 1-1 and both are looking for more.
The Patriots won in Cincinnati in Week 1 before dropping an overtime game to the Seahawks in Week 2. The Jets, meanwhile, got soundly beaten in San Francisco the first Monday night of the year but bounced back to get a quality win in Tennessee in Week 2. Now, the Jets are home for the first time this season, giving the New York fans their first chance to watch an entire Aaron Rodgers game in person.
For fantasy, the Patriots’ only lock is Rhamondre Stevenson. He’s a borderline RB1 who has been given plenty of volume. The Jets’ rush defense has struggled, so he’s a great play. Hunter Henry had a huge Week 2 and looks like a starting consideration at tight end. Meanwhile, Antonio Gibson has been a steady contributor that’s a low-end flex option for me. I’m not ready to trust any Patriots receivers yet, but I’m keeping an eye on Ja’Lynn Polk.
For the Jets, Rodgers is a QB2 for me this week. I’m also starting Garrett Wilson—the No. 1 option in the passing game—and Breece Hall. Hall has been a workhorse in the backfield but also getting targets, which is great. We’ve seen Allen Lazard and Braelon Allen each have one decent game so far this season, but neither is more than a deep league flex option. I’d lean more toward Allen, who I think could have a safer floor, but neither are must starts or locks.
