It’s been three and a half years since we were first introduced to Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn). The witch was introduced to viewers as part of WandaVision—which debuted in January of 2021. In that series, Agatha was the primary antagonist, and was left in a precarious state as the Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) moved on.
Ever since that series ended, we’ve heard rumors of a series focused on Agatha. Now, years later, that series is finally here. Agatha All Along launches with a two-episode premier tonight, while subsequent episodes will air Thursdays on Disney+. The nine-episode series culminates with a two-hour finale on Halloween, October 31.
The look and feel of the series—combined with the subject matter—feels like an ideal fit for the spooky season. This is a different kind of Marvel series, but it certainly shares some DNA and style with WandaVision. In fact, the pilot will very much drop viewers and fans into the feel of that first Marvel TV series.
This one picks up where Agatha was left behind and soon finds her on a mission to find what was lost—namely her power. To do that, she builds a coven to unlock the path to the Witch’s Road, where she hopes to achieve here goals. It also offers challenges of its own.
I won’t spoil the specifics of the plot or journey here; suffice to say I was curious how the series would work. The first season is nine episodes and I’ve seen the first four. I was engaged by the opening episode and had a lot of fun as we continued on the journey. Hahn is talented and does a nice job in the lead role, bringing the audience back in and leading this new journey.
The cast of the new series is strong, too. That includes Patti LuPone, Debra Jo Rupp, Joe Locke, Ali Ahn, and Sasheer Zamata. They’re a good group that mesh well with Hahn’s Agatha. But one of my favorite additions is Aubrey Plaza, who makes quite an entrance in the pilot and has some good back-and-forth with Hahn in this show.
Overall, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will enjoy this series. It’s also something that feels accessible for those that haven’t watched everything that’s come before—though I would recommend checking out WandaVision first.
The two-episode premier takes place tonight on Disney+.
