We close the second week of the NFL Season with another big matchup on Monday Night Football as the Atlanta Falcons head to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles will be looking for a second straight win, while the Falcons will be trying to avoid the 0-2 start. I’ll preview the game below in a minute. First, let’s look at some of our takeaways from the rest of what we saw in Week 2.
The Saints Look Good
It was one thing to score 47 points and blow out the Carolina Panthers at home, but could the Saints do it again? Turns out, they could. The Saints hung 44 points on the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas, moving to 2-0. Alvin Kamara was the man with three rushing touchdowns and a long receiving touchdown. Derek Carr looked great again, too, hitting Chris Olave for a few plays and bombing it down the field to Rashid Shaheed for a big score. The defense did well, too, holding Dak Prescott in check and forcing a pair of interceptions. The Saints could be a force to be reckoned with.
The Buccaneers Look Good
Like their division mates, the Buccaneers started 2-0. They also had two statement wins, but they came in a different fashion. In Week 1 it was a big offensive performance at home as the team beat up on the Commanders. But in Week 2, the Buccaneers went on the road and stuck it to the Detroit Lions, earning the 20-16 win. That has them undefeated and looking good.
The Rams are in Trouble
This isn’t just about an 0-2 start, which isn’t great. It’s about the injuries that are already piling up. After Week 1, the Rams lost receiver Puka Nacua and offensive lineman Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom to IR. In Week 2, it was safety John Johnson and receiver Cooper Kupp knocked out as the team got trucked by the Cardinals. With Kupp in a walking boot after the game, that’s not a promising start. Digging out of an 0-2 hole is hard. Doing with without your stars is a tall order indeed.
And now, on to Monday Night Football.
Atlanta Falcons (0-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)
This is a tale of two teams. The Falcons looked flat, and Kirk Cousins looked like a statue in Week 1. The Eagles, meanwhile, looked slick on offense, putting up big numbers in a “home” win in Brazil. Now, they wrap up Week 2 hosting the Falcons, with each team looking to show their stuff in Week 2. And the Eagles will be doing it short-handed.
For the Falcons, I had Cousins as a low-end QB2 but I’m nervous. We need to see more this week. I’m still starting Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts, too. But, again, I want to see more from Cousins and this offense. I’m probably holding off on Darnell Mooney and Ray-Ray McCloud until we see more from this offense.
For the Eagles, word broke Sunday that A.J. Brown would miss the game. That leaves the team short-handed and could make an impact on your lineup. Jalen Hurts is a Top 5 QB, and Saquon Barkley is a Top 5 RB for me. I was already starting DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, but I like them a touch more. If you’re desperate, Jahan Dotson could be worth a flier.
I’m picking the Eagles tonight.
