The 2024 NFL Season is rapidly approaching. The season kicks off on Thursday, September 5 and every day through Monday, September 2 we’ll be going team-by-team as we preview the new season. Be sure to come back here every afternoon as we look at a new team and get your ready for the 2024 season. We’ll cover off-season changes, the fantasy prospects, and the prediction for how the team will fare this season.
The Jets won the off-season in 2023, landing Aaron Rodgers and starring on Hard Knocks. But their season came crashing down after four offensive snaps as Rodgers was lost for the season. The Jets struggled to a 7-10 finish, ending up third in the AFC East. Now, Rodgers is back, and the Jets have plenty of pressure to deliver a post-season appearance. Can they get there? Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
The Jets didn’t see many players leave this off-season. Linebacker Bryce Huff and right tackle Mekhi Becton left in free agency, while the team dealt former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos. The Jets did make some big moves, bringing in Tyrod Taylor as backup quarterback and trading for Eagles’ pass rusher Haasan Reddick. Reddick has requested a trade and failed to report, leaving his status in doubt. The team also signed Javon Kinlaw on defense and Tyron Smith on the offensive line. The team added weapons too, including former Chargers’ receiver Mike Williams. Williams caught 309 passes for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns in seven seasons with the Chargers.
In the draft, the Jets worked on their offensive line, taking Olu Fashanu with their top pick. They also added offensive weapons. In the Second-Round, the team snagged receiver Malachi Corley. He caught 259 passes for 3,035 yards and 29 touchdowns in four seasons at Western Kentucky. Later in the draft the Jets snagged Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis as backfield depth and brought in a development quarterback in Jordan Travis.
Fantasy Prospects
The quarterback position comes down to Rodgers, who seems healthy and on track to return. Still, he showed signs of fall off before leaving Green Bay. I like him as a QB2. In the backfield, Breece Hall is the man. He was RB2 in 2023 and I like him as a Top 3 RB again in 2024. Among his backups, I like Allen the best. He’s a low-end flex for me.
In the passing game, the Jets are led by Garrett Wilson. He should reach his potential better with Rodgers at quarterback. I like him to finish as a WR1. I think Williams and Corley will also be involved. I like Williams better for 2024, finishing in the WR5 range, while Corley is more of a flex. I like Corley better in dynasty. At tight end, Tyler Conklin figures to lead the way. I like Conklin to be a TE2 with some upside as a bye week fill in or deep league option.
Prediction
A lot of people were all in on the Jets in 2023. I wasn’t sold, but I think they’ll be better in 2024. This team is in win now mode and, as long as the key players remain healthy, I think they can make some of that happen. I like the Jets to fight for the division title and end up with 10 or 11 wins and a Wild Card berth.
