“When tomorrow never comes, that’s the most difficult thing to deal with.”
The World Premiere of I’m Your Venus was a raging success. Special guests included director Kimberly Reed and Mother Gisele Xtravaganza.
The documentary itself was a testament of love to Venus Pellagatti Xtravaganza, the gorgeous, lithe, funny, and feisty trans woman who was unjustly murdered on December 21, 1988. Her family members, namely her brothers, decided to look into her murder decades later to try to find answers.
“Somebody got away with murder and that just don’t sit well with me.”
The documentary also covers the quests to get Venus’ name changed posthumously and to make her former residence in Jersey City a designated landmark.
Despite her brothers’ love, Venus still felt a pain that is explored in the documentary. Her friends and family seek to understand and forgive. Director Kimberly Reed takes a decades-old story and makes it fresh and relevant. If you were inspired by Paris Is Burning, this continuation of Venus’ story is a must-watch.
Instead of a traditional Q&A, the World Premiere featured voguing by legends including Mother Gisele Xtravaganza, Amara Xtravaganza, and Daniella Carter (of Kokomo City fame).
