The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is in the books, and it was a doozy. There were plenty of records broken as 14 offensive players came off the board in the first 14 picks, including a record six quarterbacks in the first 12 picks. We had 23 offensive players total taken in the First Round, a record, and a total of seven wide receivers. Below, I break down the 14 fantasy-relevant players taken on the first day of the NFL Draft.

Quarterbacks

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
About
: As expected, Williams went No. 1 overall to the Bears. He figures to be the starter right away, and the team has surrounded him with talent. That includes veteran receivers D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen, tight end Cole Kmet, and a good set of running backs, led by D’Andre Swift. Williams was the top prospect most of the pre-draft process after seeing him throw 72 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions the past two seasons in college. I have him as QB10 currently in dynasty. He should also be the No. 1 pick in rookie Superflex drafts.

Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
About
: It was more of a question who the Commanders would take at No. 2. They grabbed LSU quarterback Daniels, who threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions last season. He also added 1,134 rush yards and 10 more touchdowns. He could be a dynamic weapon and will likely be a Week 1 starter with just Marcus Mariota behind him. The Commanders have some weapons—including receiver Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson along with tight end Zach Ertz. Still, the success of rookie QBs the past few seasons has been mixed. So, I’m a bit cautious. I have him as QB18 in Dynasty at the moment, and No. 3 overall in my rookie Superflex rankings.

Drake Maye, New England Patriots
About
: I like Maye’s potential but it’s not an ideal landing spot in New England. A lot is on Alex Van Pelt to develop Maye, while the Patriots have a middling set of weapons at best. Currently, the receiver room has Demario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Juju Smith-Schuster, Jalen Reagor, and Kendrick Bourne. That isn’t ideal. I like tight end Hunter Henry, and there’s potential with a backfield led by Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. But it could be tough sledding for Maye early. It’s also possible the team opts to let veteran Jacoby Brissett start at the beginning of the season. For now, I have Maye at QB23 in Dynasty. He’s undoubtedly a First-Round selection in Superflex rookie drafts, but I don’t know that he goes Top 5. I wouldn’t blame those that wanted to grab some of the receivers first.

Michael Penix, Jr., Atlanta Falcons
About
: The Falcons shocked the world by snagging Penix with the No. 8 overall pick. I didn’t have the Falcons taking a quarterback after they signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million deal this off-season. Based on reports, doesn’t seem like Cousins was expecting it, either. The Falcons have good weapons, but it’s not an ideal landing spot. The most likely outcome is that Penix sits for two-to-three seasons then gets a shot, like Jordan Love in Green Bay. I have Penix as QB34 in dynasty for now. I respect the draft capital, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where he’s on the field any time soon. In Superflex drafts, he could got in the Second Round, but I’d rather wait until the Third Round.

J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings
About
: McCarthy went to the Vikings, which was somewhat expected. His path to getting there—including being the fifth quarterback off the board at pick No. 10—was unexpected. He gets to work with Kevin O’Connell and has a good set of weapons, including Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Adison, and Aaron Jones. I like the landing spot better than the Patriots, so for now I have McCarthy at QB22 in Dynasty. Maye is a better prospect in a lesser situation. In terms of Superflex drafts, I’d suspect McCarthy and Maye go close together.

Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
About
: The final quarterback selected in the First Round was Nix, who went to the Broncos at No. 12. The team has Jarrett Stidham and traded for Zach Wilson earlier this week, giving them a crowded and interesting room. Nix could certainly be the Week 1 starter, especially given the glowing comments from Sean Payton. But the team around him isn’t incredible. Still, with his draft capital and landing spot, I suspect Nix will find his way into the First Round of Superflex drafts. I currently have him as QB27 in Dynasty.

Wide Receivers:

Marvin Harrison, Jr., Arizona Cardinals
About
: As expected, Harrison was the first receiver off the board. He went to the Cardinals with the No. 4 overall pick. The past two seasons at Ohio State he caught 140 passes for 2,474 yards and 28 touchdowns. He’ll easily be the top receiver for the Cardinals and could well see 120-150 targets in year one. I have him as WR10 in dynasty. Even in Superflex, he could go at the No. 1 pick in rookie drafts. Either way, he shouldn’t go lower than No. 2.

Malik Nabers, New York Giants
About
: Nabers is a great prospect. He caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns last season with LSU. He gives the Giants a No. 1 receiver, something the team probably hasn’t had since Odell Beckham, Jr., was in his heyday. This provides a good weapon for Daniel Jones as he tries to bounce back. It’s not an exceptional landing spot because of the questions about the Giants’ offense, but I still like the talent. I have him as WR21 currently in Dynasty and I’d expect him high in the First Round of rookie drafts.

Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears
About
: After snagging Williams at 1.01, the Bears added a franchise receiver at 1.09. The path to meaningful targets early might be somewhat blocked as the team has D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen. But Allen doesn’t feel like a long-term answer. I still like Odunze, though he might have a Jaxon Smith-Njigba-like rookie year. He’s currently WR25 for me in Dynasty. I suspect he’ll still go high in the First Round of rookie drafts.

Brian Thomas, Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
About
: The Jaguars have Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and the recently signed Gabe Davis. But the team was pushing hard to re-sign Calvin Ridley before he went to Tennessee. So, it’s not shocking to see the Jaguars add another weapon for Trevor Lawrence, especially in what’s become a very competitive AFC South. I still like Kirk as WR1 in 2024 for the Jaguars, and Evan Engram is a factor in the passing game, but Thomas is a strong addition. The question is passing volume. Currently I have in Thomas as WR42 in Dynasty. I suspect he still goes in the First Round of rookie drafts.

Xavier Worthy, Kansas City Chiefs
About
: Worthy set a combine record for his time in the 40-yard dash. He’s fast and gives the defending champion Chiefs another big weapon on the outside. That gives him appeal but I’m not over-reacting. We’ve seen Chiefs’ draft picks climb the rookie draft boards before and fail to produce big results. With the unsettled situation with Rashee Rice and his off-field issues, and Worthy’s draft capital, I’m intrigued. I have him as WR37 in Dynasty for now. I also like him in the First Round of rookie drafts, but I’m not reaching early.

Ricky Pearsall, San Francisco 49ers
About
: The 49ers used the penultimate pick in the First Round to snag a receiver. This comes on the heels of talk that the 49ers are shopping receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Pearsall had a strong 2023, catching 65 passes for 965 yards and four touchdowns. He joins a good offense that for the moment has Deebo Samuel and Aiyuk at receiver. I suspect that, absent a trade, Pearsall impacts Jauan Jennings the most. I have him at WR43 currently in Dynasty. With his landing spot and draft capital, he becomes a fringe First Round selection in Superflex drafts.

Xavier Legette, Carolina Panthers
About
: The Panthers moved up one pick—back into the First Round—to snag a receiver with the No. 32 overall pick. Legette was in college for five years but only had one year of production. In 2023 he caught 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. That was enough to entice the Panthers, whose offense is still a work in progress. The team has Diontae Johnson, veteran Adam Thielen, and second-year receiver Jonathan Mingo, making for a somewhat crowded room. Currently I have him as WR52 in Dynasty. I could see someone reaching on him in the First Round of rookie drafts, but I’d take him in the Second Round.

Tight Ends:

Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders
About
: As expected, Bowers went in the First Round. What was unexpected was his landing spot with the Raiders. The team has Davante Adams, Jacobi Myers, and second-year tight end Michael Mayer. They also have some questions at quarterback with Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. I didn’t love the landing spot, though I still like the prospect. I have him sitting at TE10 in Dynasty, but I’m more up in the air on his spot in a Rookie Draft. He could go early, but I wouldn’t blame people that waited. Either way, he should still be a First-Round selection.
