Migration is a Universal Illumination film that is more mature than the Despicable Me movies. The film is about a family of birds who leave the pond they lived in their whole lives to explore the rest of the world.

I found myself pleasantly surprised by the light-hearted adventure. The film opens with a cartoon pop-up book style, as Mack tells his children a tale about the dangers beyond the pond. The story took an unexpected dark twist that I found very funny along with another scene where a bird kept getting hit by a car. Migration has some small but funny moments throughout. The action scenes and danger in this film I enjoyed, from scenes they filmed like tense horror movies with creepy cabins, killer birds and humans helped make the plot more thrilling. The 3D in this film was amazing it had a great sense of depth and more pop-out than your usual 3D film. I noticed lots of separation between the birds and the ground when flying which helped make the world seem bigger and immersive. A killer bird was rather creepy in 3D, the way its eye looked at you and popped out I thought was a creative way to use the 3D technology.

The comedy in Migration was hit and miss, I believe some of the humour was intended for younger audiences. I did at times think the story dragged very slightly where it didn’t need to and other scenes could have benefited and been more impactful by being longer.

Overall migration is a fun film with laughs, a good message and the 3D is a must-see experience that won’t be the same in 2D. I would recommend watching.
