We’re coming to the end of the year, meaning it is time to look back on the year that was. Today, I’m sharing my Top 10 TV Shows of 2023. In addition, Eric and I shared our Top 12 movies of the year on the This Week at the Movies podcast. Be sure to catch up with the video of our show!

First, some Honorable Mentions:

No. 20: The Lincoln Lawyer, Season 2, Netflix
No. 19: Only Murders in the Building, Season 3, Hulu
No. 18: 1923, Paramount+
No. 17: Abbot Elementary, Season 2, ABC
No. 16: A Murder at the End of the World, Hulu
No. 15: Picard, Season 3, Paramount+
No. 14: The Mandalorian, Season 3, Disney+
No. 13: Schmigadoon!, Season 2, Apple TV+
No. 12: Ahsoka, Disney+
No. 11: The Last Thing He Told Me, Apple TV+

No. 10: The Diplomat, Netflix
About:
Keri Russell takes the lead in this Netflix series about a career operative assigned as ambassador to the United Kingdom. She’s out of her depth and unsure why she’s been placed in the post. Throughout the tremendous first season we learn why she ended up there. Rufus Sewell is great as her estranged husband as well. This was a gem of the first part of 2023.

No. 9: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Season 5, Prime Video
About:
I loved this show throughout its run. Rachel Brosnahan is incredible in the lead role. This final season flashed forward, showing us how Midge’s life and career turned out. But at the same time, we complete our journey of seeing her rise. It culminates in a beautiful and memorable series finale.

No. 8: Mrs. Davis, Peacock
About:
It was a big year for original programming for Peacock, which had a number of interesting series. This one from Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof found Betty Gilpin as a nun that was fighting a super AI that was running the world. It was wild and weird, but it was an exceptional and engaging ride.

No. 7: The Bear, Season 2, Hulu
About:
This was my favorite series of 2022. The second season was a great follow up. It’s not quite as high on my list, but I enjoyed the series, and I can’t wait for its return. Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri are incredible. This was a fine season of television with heart, humor, and plenty of pathos.

No. 6: Drops of God, Apple TV+
About:
A series about a wine competition based on a Manga doesn’t seem like it’s aimed at me. This series—which features English, French and Japanese—is unlike anything I saw this year. Apple TV+ continues to offer some beautiful and daring series, and this was one that captured my heart.

No. 5: Lessons in Chemistry, Apple TV+
About:
Based on the novel from Bonnie Garmus, this beautiful series features Brie Larson as a scientist who goes through plenty of life challenges, leading to a daughter and popularity as host of a cooking series. It blends plenty of humor with heart and was the rare series that got stronger throughout its run. I really loved this one.

No. 4: Bosch Legacy, Season 2, Freevee
About:
Loved the original series and the first season of this spin-off was not only compelling, but it also left on a heck of a cliffhanger. We get the resolution to that here and a story that spins in plenty of fun ways. I could watch Titus Welliver as Bosch forever, and I loved Madison Lintz as his daughter Maddie.

No. 3: Shrinking, Apple TV+
About:
This delightful series comes from Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein and Jason Segel. It was one of the early releases of 2023 and it’s been somewhat lost in the shuffle. But I loved the story here and the blend of humor and drama. Segel shines in the series, and I loved what Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams brought as his co-workers.

No. 2: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Season 2, Paramount +
About:
I love Star Trek, and since Paramout added a streaming service, we’ve gotten a number of new series. This is not only the best of those, but it might also be my favorite Star Trek series ever. Season one was great, but this second season was an awesome follow up. I love Anson Mount and Ethan Peck in this series, but the whole cast is great. We even got a fantastic musical episode in season two!

No. 1: Ted Lasso, Season 3, Apple TV+
About
: It couldn’t end any other way. By that, I mean both the end of the season and the series as we know it and the fact the series ended its run atop my list. I’ve been enamored of the show since it premiered and this third and final season was a great coda. It was full of beautiful stories and rich emotions.
