Before COVID-19 began, filmmaker Scott Hamilton Kennedy started looking at the Measles outbreak of 2019. He was looking at the war that raged over vaccines and the science behind them, and the impact that had on create an outbreak for a disease that had previously been wiped off the map.

Shot in the Arm, a new documentary that opened in New York this weekend and Los Angeles later this month, follows that journey all the way through the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a powerful look at how these issues have impacted the globe and become hot-button issues for people on both sides.

I sat down with Kennedy and the film’s Executive Producer, Neil deGrasse Tyson, to discuss the journey of the film and what they hope the audience will take away from this powerful journey.
