It would be hard to start a season much worse than the New York Giants. The team was outscored 60-0 in the first six quarters. But something magical happened at half time of Week 2, as the Giants came out and rallied. The team outscored the Cardinals 31-8 to pull out a narrow three-point victory.
It’s clear 1-1 feels a lot better than 0-2. It’s also clear it was a painful win, as the Giants lost Saquon Barkley, who will be out on Thursday as the team travels to battle the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers, meanwhile, started 2-0. They got a big win in Pittsburgh then came up with a tough win over the Rams. Now, they get to make their home debut on a short week against a banged-up Giants team. Both teams were in the playoffs in 2022, and of the Giants want to make it back getting a win here would be huge.
Brock Purdy, meanwhile, has yet to lose as a starting quarterback. The 49ers are heavy favorites on Thursday night as well.
For fantasy, for the Giants, Daniel Jones is a low-end QB2 for me. I have Darren Waller as a low-end TE1. I’m not bullish on any running backs and I’m still giving it a week before I rely on any of the receivers.
For the 49ers, Purdy is also a QB2 for me. He’s been great for the 49ers but not totally for fantasy. Christian McCaffrey is an RB1, and a start. Among the passing game weapons, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle won’t all have big games, but they all have that potential. I’m still starting them if I have them and taking my chances.
