“Death is a robe every man must wear.”—Ulysses
For weeks we’ve been trying to piece together the set of events that led to Edgar (Zach Woods) being poisoned. This week, the killer is finally revealed and more importantly the circumstances that led to his death.
We pick up where we left off. Isabel (Elizabeth Perkins) thought she played a hand in her son’s death but when it was revealed that wasn’t the case, she went back to laying the blame on Grace (Poppy Liu). The sheriff (Martin Mull) arrives and seems to side with Isabel. That puts Aniq (Sam Richardson) and Danner (Tiffany Haddish) in a bind as they try to clear Grace and solve the case.
All season I’ve been running the board of suspects, trying to determine who has the best motive to want to kill Edgar. Turns out, the key to solving the case was figuring out that Edgar was a victim of inopportunity. Turns out, the real target was Feng (Ken Jeong). But in the wake of his rejection on the business proposal, Feng grabbed the wrong drink, sparing his life and costing Edgar his.
The motive, it turns out, was love. But it wasn’t the affair between Hannah (Anna Konkle) and Grace that did it, but rather the decades old affair between Vivian (Vivian Wu) and Ulysses (John Cho). Ulysses wasn’t ready to let Vivian go. He tried to remove his brother from the equation but instead he got Edgar.
The reveal was somewhat interesting. Ulysses remained high on my board throughout the process as something about his story didn’t sit right. The misdirection of the victim kept him from being No. 1, but in the end it’s an outcome that made some sense.
I enjoyed the ride this season, which was fun and had a strong cast. The rest of the episode focused on Danner making her life into a movie—complete with a new relationship with star Jaleel White. But, most importantly, Aniq earned the approval of Feng and Vivian and moved forward with his plant to marry Zoe (Zoe Chow).
Will we get another installment of the series? I’d be up for it. What did everyone else think of this second season and the big reveal?
