“Why did I come to the wedding? I guess you could say I was after one last score.”—Sebastian
Finally, this week we get to hear straight from Sebastian (Jack Whitehall), who’s been atop my suspect board since Week 1. Will he still be there after the episode? Let’s dive in.
I’ve thought there was something off about Sebastian from the beginning and turns out I was right. Sebastian isn’t British, he’s a hustler born in Southern California. He met Edgar (Zach Woods) as a kid and they’ve been partners, building an empire ever since. That is until Edgar decided to end their partnership over a dispute involving their crypto currency just before the wedding.
So, Sebastian decided to pull one last job on wedding weekend. You guessed it, Sebastian’s story is told in the form of a heist film. And it all comes down to a baseball card—a misprint—that was how their relationship started. To do it, he recruits his cousins—Jaxon (John Gemberling) and Judson (Will Greenberg).
The best part is Sebastian recruits them out of prison, giving us a chance to check back in with Yasper (Ben Schwartz). Turns out he’s not letting a murder conviction dampen his enthusiasm for his music. It’s fun to see him again, even if for a brief moment.
In the meantime, we learn that in the process of committing his heist, Sebastian explains a lot of the weird things people had seen. He tried to hit on Hannah (Anna Konkle) and Isabel (Elizabeth Perkins) to get a safe code. It was the latter encounter that also led to him being the streaker mentioned in Aniq’s (Sam Richardson) version of events.
He also introduced a brand new suspect—Vivian (Vivian Wu). Turns out Grace’s (Poppy Liu) mother was harboring a secret, and Edgar knew it. She wasn’t previously on the board, but this introduces some potential motive.
More potential motive? Turns out there is more to Hannah and Grace’s affair than it first appeared. A scene near the end, witnessed by Zoe (Zoe Chao), suggests there was more to their story. Could this have been a team effort?
It looks like next week we’re going to be diving a bit deeper into how Danner (Tiffany Haddish) left the force, so we’ll see where all this leads.
Suspect Board
After this week’s episode, I’m more suspicious and confused than ever.
No. 1: Hannah and Grace. There was something about that last scene that threw me off. This often comes down to people you least suspect.
No. 2: Vivian. The secret must be explored. Another quiet, off-the-board option.
No. 3: Ulysses. Still, something about him that has me curious.
No. 4: Sebastian. The heist is plausible, but I’m not letting him off the hook yet.
No. 5: Isabel. Mother dearest has been in the background some, but there are still questions.
No. 6: Feng. Could Vivian’s secret be the motive for her husband?
No. 7: Travis. He’s a goof, but I still don’t want to entirely rule him out.
