“I put her intended’s chassis on the blocks and tinkered with his under carriage.”Travis

Well, things are getting spicy in season two. After a strong two-episode premier, this week we return to suspect stories with Travis (Paul Walter Hauser) front-and-center. Since he fancies himself something of a detective, we naturally get his story told in the style of a black-and-white noir.

Of course, it begins with the wedding invitation. We know from Grace (Poppy Liu) that she sent it as a courtesy. Travis, naturally, saw it as a message and a plea for help. He begins investigating the groom (Zach Woods), finding some irregularities in his created bitcoin. While those irregularities prompt some interest from Aniq (Sam Richardson) and Danner (Tiffany Haddish), his method and conclusions are a bit far-fetched.

But Travis does lead them down some interesting roads. One of those roads points back to Hannah (Anna Konkle). Turns out she and Travis crossed paths more than once and he implies that she was interested in putting a stop to the wedding. But why?

Our investigators suspect some kind of business interest. But I keep going back to Grace’s story in episode two. Her connection to Hannah was strong, and it’s fair to wonder if Hannah really wanted to halt the wedding due to jealousy. But jealousy of whom? We also know that in the pilot it casually dropped that Hannah and Edgar aren’t biological siblings. This warrants further investigation.

Meanwhile, Zoe (Zoe Chao) has taken upon herself to find some hard evidence. That begins with finding the time of death, thanks to Edgar’s smart watch. Turns out he expired just about 30 minutes after heading to bed. And that’s not all, Zoe discovers what looks like a cufflink.

Instead, Grace tells Zoe it’s a G key off an old typewriter—the kind Hannah used to collect. While investigating in Hannah’s tent, Zoe and Grace not only find the typewriter missing the G but realize there are plenty of poisonous plants on the property. Realizing that Edgar was suffering from hallucinations before expiring, Zoe, Aniq and Danner narrow it down to a specific plant—chosen by Hannah as centerpieces at the wedding.

This is what we call a mountain of evidence. Is it too much? I suspect it is. But it sets the stage for Hannah to tell her story in her own words next week.

Suspect Board

Now, it’s time to revisit our suspect board.

No. 1: Sebastian. I’m not moving off the best man just yet. We don’t get much from him in this episode, but enough for me to be suspicious.

No. 2: Ulysses. I don’t know why, but the uncle is catching my eye.

No. 3: Isabel. I’m not ruling out the cold fish mother.

No. 4: Hannah. It’s too much evidence. My suspicion is wanning. Something is off, but I don’t know that it’s murder.

No. 5: Feng. We haven’t heard much from Grace’s father, but he’s still on the list.

No. 6: Grace. I don’t think it’s the bride.

No. 7: Travis. Is he weird? Yes. Is he a murderer? I doubt it.
