Stacey Maltin and Margarita Zhitnikova are real life best friends who make movies together through their production company Besties Make Movies. But they also play best friends in their latest film, both written and directed by Maltin, Triple Threat.
It’s the story of three close friends whose Broadway dreams are finally coming true as their show Firefly gets picked up by producers and shepherded towards opening night. But Gus (Jay DeYonker) has another dream — to be a father — and Chloe (Maltin) and Maggie (Zhitnikova) agree to help him via surrogacy. It’s a tale of how messy friendships can get when love and business are involved and of one man’s path towards fatherhood.
I got the opportunity to chat with Maltin and Zhitnikova about making movies with friends, their Broadway inspirations, and producing a film in New York City.
