SXSW Review: “Jethica”

-Allison McCulloch

Jessica (Ashley Denise Robinson) is being terrorized by Kevin (Will Madden). Enlisting the help of her friend Elena (Callie Hernandez), they work together after the police claim that he wasn’t breaking any laws. The story rang true: women aren’t often believed and if they are, they aren’t taken seriously.

Jessica plays his messages for Elena and we find Kevin to be unrelenting and unwilling to take “no” for an answer. He also finds himself to be the one suffering and doesn’t take Jessica’s feelings into consideration.

Elena comes up with clever ways to try to get “rid” of Kevin. While the film is minimalist, it is also effective. Ultimately, this indie film is enrapturing.
