You’re just going to have to read the official released synopsis for this: “Naked Singularity’ centers on Casi (John Boyega), a promising young NYC public defender whose idealism is beginning to crack under the daily injustices of the very justice system he’s trying to make right. Doubting all he has worked for and seeing signs of the universe collapsing all around him, he is pulled into a dangerous high-stakes drug heist by an unpredictable former client (Olivia Cooke) in an effort to beat the broken system at its own game.
Why is everyone so skinny? Wait wait wait… go back to that universe collapsing bit:
Maybe it’s just stylistic choice, but the implication of a public defender fighting for a just world in the wake of the singularity is… something I need.
Directed by Chase Palmer, screenplay by both Chase Palmer and David Matthews, based on a book of the same title written by Sergio De La Pava. Screen Media will release this in select US theaters on August 6th, then on VOD starting August 13th this summer.
