This Week At The Movies – July 16

Gunpowder Milkshake (Netflix)

Directed by: Navot Papushado

Synopsis: After being abandoned by her mother, Sam was raised by The Firm, the ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Now, 15 years later, Sam has followed in her mother’s footsteps and grown into a fierce hit-woman. But when a high-risk job goes wrong, Sam must choose between serving The Firm or protecting the life of an innocent 8-year-old girl.

This is going to be a whole lot of fun. You have a cast of badass women including Karen Gillan and Lena Headey. This has so much potential with the cast and the premise. If this really is like a John Wick type film, I think it is going to be really awesome. This film is slated to release on July 14th and is being released on Netflix.

Pig (Theaters)

Directed by: Michael Sarnoski

Synopsis: A truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregonian wilderness must return to his past in Portland in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped.

Nick Cage can do no wrong and you will never be able to convince me differently. But in all seriousness, this is very intriguing for me. The premise, the cast and the potential to take many twists and turns is something that has peaked my attention. The cast also included Alexx Wolf and Adam Arkin. The film is being distributed by Neon and is scheduled to release on July 16th.

Escape Room 2: Tournament of Champions (Theaters)

Directed by: Adam Robitel

Synopsis: Six people unwittingly find themselves locked in another series of escape rooms, slowly uncovering what they have in common to survive as they discover all the games that they’ve played before.

Not entirely sure how a sequel to the original Escape Room is being released, but here we are. The first one is fine, not anything special. There was a clear setup to a sequel and I don’t believe that that sequel is earned, but again, here we are. The premise is interesting but the trailers have been far from intriguing and this is one of my least anticipated of the weekend. It is slated to be released July 16th and is being distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Space Jam: A New Legacy (Theaters and HBO Max)

Directed by: Malcolm D. Lee

Synopsis: When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life.

The long awaited sequel to the highly popular Space Jam is finally here. Instead of Michael Jordan, this time LeBron James takes the stage as the leader of the Tune Squad. Don Cheadle takes the reins as the lead villain and the Goon Squad is filled with fan favorite basketball personalities suiting up for Cheadle. Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Anthony Davis to name a few. The film is set to be released on July 16th and is a film from Warner Brothers.
