Netflix dominates, taking the top four spots in the MCFCA’s 2020 Film Awards nominations.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – December 21, 2020 – The Music City Film Critics’ Association is proud to
announce their nominations for the MCFCA 2020 Film Awards. The association is comprised of
more than 30 professional film critics working in or near Nashville, Tennessee.
The winners will be announced on January 11, 2021.
Mank leads the way with nine nominations including Best Picture, Best Director – David Fincher, Best Actor – Gary Oldman, Best Supporting Actress – Amanda Seyfried.
Da 5 Bloods and The Trial of the Chicago 7 follow just behind with seven nominations each. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Nomadland, and The Father round out the top six with five nominations each.
“This has been a very strange and difficult year for all of us, and the film industry is one that was hit particularly hard,” Clint Redwine, president of the MCFCA, said. “Even so, there were just as many fantastic films released this year as in years past. It shows that we can still accomplish great things, even in the face of adversity, if we all work together.”
MCFCA vice president Micheal Compton added, “In a challenging year for cinema, I am delighted to see this organization recognize such a diverse group of films. It speaks to the power of movies, even as theaters struggle to find their footing in the midst of a pandemic.”
“In a year that resulted in many movies being delayed until further notice, studios adapted and got creative so that audiences were still able to see a large number of films during these trying times. While the pandemic has brought out so many emotions in all of us, I’m thankful that the studios were able to help us take our minds off things, one feature at a time,” noted MCFCA Board Member Sean Atkins.
