Madonna the Biopic: Directed & Co-Written by Madonna

Looks like Madonna is going to be her own lucky star and bring her own story to the big screen! The Material Girl is set to direct a feature film about her own life and career. The untitled project has landed at Universal Pictures and is being written by Madonna and Academy Award winner Diablo Cody.

While many recent musical biopics have the talented involved as executive producers or creative consultants, Madonna would be the first in at least memory to direct her own story on screen. Madonna has been upfront and controlled her narrative her entire career, so it’s not a huge surprise, but definitely an exciting announcement.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer; a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” said Madonna. “The focus of this film will always be music.  Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive.  There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me.  It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Madonna’s career has spanned over four decades and I’m sure this film will be jam-packed with drama, action and of course, certified BOPS. Madonna has been certified the top-selling solo female artist of all time, is behind only The Beatles, making the most successful solo artist in the history of American singles chart and has 12 multi-platinum albums.

What moment do you hope to see unfold on screen? I certainly want to see her first VMA performance, the drama behind Madonna in the Erotica era and as many performances as possible from whichever lucky actress lands the leading role (please be Julia Garner).
