Casinos are purpose-built for the human psyche. As a player, it’s not uncommon to experience a giant gamut of emotions that can cycle regularly through excitement, fear, and back to elation all within the span of about 5 minutes! When paired with the glitz and glamour that they’re most famous for, it’s no wonder that there have been so many films based around the gambling lifestyle. Here, we are looking at four of possibly the most iconic scenes in cinema history to illustrate the unexplainable draw that these places offer.

Casino

You can’t very well have a post about iconic casino movies without including Casino. This 1995 thriller from none other than Martin Scorsese showcases both the glitzy outside image and intertwines it with the seedier aspect of mob life. Although many modern players experience gambling via online sites and can experience a huge number of games, which, according to pgbet.id, can range from video slots to conventional table games; it used to be the case that you had to visit a brick-and-mortar casino to have a flutter. And for many, Las Vegas remains the Mecca of gambling, a status it owes in part to movies like Casino. Filled with many iconic scenes, it’s not easy to narrow it down to just one, but if forced, we’d have to say it’s a toss-up between Joe Pesci’s character of Nicky Santoro speeding through the desert, which is then reflected in the sunglasses of Robert De Niro, and any of the gorgeous tracking shots made on the floor of the Tangiers casino.

Oceans Eleven

Heists and casinos almost go hand in hand, and one of the best examples of heist films in modern history has to be Ocean’s Eleven. Here, Danny Ocean and the group he gathers form the eponymous Eleven and scheme to rob three casinos in one night (the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand). Chaos inevitably ensues, and our gang makes off with millions of dollars, only to be intercepted by the antagonist in the following film. When discussing famous scenes, it’s got to be the final one with the gang gathered in front of the legendary fountain of the Bellagio to enjoy their moment. Then, one by one, each member peels off until only Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, remains.

Rounders

Rounders is an interesting one in that while many poker players tend to rip apart most films that include poker games, many classify this one as perhaps the most true to form, at least regarding the nature of the grittier, underground games. As for famous moments, it has to be when the character played by Matt Damon finally figures out what his opponents tell is and uses it to outplay him. The high-stakes nature of the game and the realism imbued throughout the film are what make this a genuine classic.

Rain Man

Ah, the film that brought the reality of counting cards to the masses! Rain Man follows two brothers played by a very young Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman as they play in a casino. The most well-known moment must be the movement when they descend the escalator onto the main floor, ready to make full use of Dustin Hoffman’s character’s savant abilities. In fact, this scene has been parodied numerous times, famously in one of The Hangover films!

It shouldn’t be a surprise that casinos are often used as the basis of a film. They are glamorous, offer innumerable stories to tell, and are perfect for creating tension. The films in this post only scratch the surface; many other iconic moments await those interested in this genre.
