Week 3 of the NFL season got under way in Buffalo on Thursday night. Now, we have a full slate of games on Sunday with an epic matchup on Monday night. Below are the five games on the Sunday slate I’m most excited to see.
Sunday Early Games:
Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) at Minnesota Vikings (1-1)
About: I know what you’re thinking, why is this game on the list? I know this is a backup bowl, with Carson Wentz starting for the Vikings and Jake Browning for the Bengals. We also have Jordan Mason in the backfield for the Bengals as Aaron Jones is on IR. But I’m curious to see these teams on even footing. Plus, we still get Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins. This could be a fun one.
Los Angeles Rams (2-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (2-0)
About: Two unbeaten teams in the NFC clash here. The Rams have looked good despite Matthew Stafford’s gimpy back. The Eagles, meanwhile, have been a little underwhelming on offense despite the undefeated start. This should be an important and interesting early season matchup.
Houston Texans (0-2) at Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)
About: The Texans haven’t gotten off to a good start. They also only scored 28 points in two games. The Jaguars, meanwhile, could have been 2-0 if they had held on against Browning and the Bengals. This is a pair of division rivals, each of whom need a quality win. That presents some high stakes early in the season.
Sunday Late Games:
Denver Broncos (1-1) at Los Angeles Chargers (2-0)
About: This is technically the home opener for the Chargers. They were the Home Team in Week 1, but that game was in Brazil. Either way, the Chargers have started 2-0 with two wins over AFC West opponents. Sunday, they’ll attempt to get a clean sweep of division opponents to start the season, which would cement them atop the AFC West in the first month. Can the Broncos’ defense bounce back after a poor Week 2? They’ll need to if the Broncos are going to get the win in Los Angeles.
Arizona Cardinals (2-0) at San Francisco 49ers (2-0)
About: The NFC West has been hot. At 1-1, the Seahawks are in last place. The other three—including the two featured here—have started undefeated. Whoever gets the win in this matchup will have a leg up. The 49ers could see Brock Purdy this week, but if not, Mac Jones delivered three touchdowns in a win in New Orleans. The Cardinals, meanwhile, might be the most under-the-radar undefeated team in the league. This should be a good one.
