The first week of the NFL Season had highs and lows, as well as some surprises. We got the second week going with a big matchup between the Commanders and the Packers last night, and we have two games on Monday night. But that leaves 13 big games on Sunday. Below are the five I’m most interested to see on the Sunday slate.
Sunday Early Games:
New York Giants (0-1) at Dallas Cowboys (0-1)
About: The divisional matchups between the Giants and the Cowboys are always fun. This one takes on a little extra edge of importance as each of these teams lost Week 1 to a division opponent. Starting out 0-2—especially 0-2 in the division—is not ideal for either team. The Giants are rolling with Russell Wilson again, while the Cowboys are still trying to figure out life after Micah Parsons. This could be a fun battle.
Chicago Bears (0-1) at Detroit Lions (0-1)
About: This game echoes many of the concerns of the last game. Each team started out 0-1 with a division loss. Starting 0-2 with two division losses is not ideal. But it’s more than that here, as Ben Johnson faces his former team with his new team. And the Lions, after Week 1, are still needing to answer questions about life without Johnson for an offense that looked stuck and out-of-sorts in Green Bay. This one has big stakes and even bigger intrigue.
Buffalo Bills (1-0) at New York Jets (0-1)
About: Another divisional matchup, and this one featuring two offenses that looked really good in Week 1 and two defenses that let a lot of points in. The Bills were able to overcome it, winning at home. The Jets fumbled, losing at home. The Jets can’t afford to go 0-2, losing two games at home, if they want to make noise in 2025. The Bills, meanwhile, want to get off to a hot start and get their first win in division.
Seattle Seahawks (0-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0)
About: The Seahawks struggled in Week 1, falling at home to the San Francisco 49ers. Now, they hit the road to battle a Pittsburgh team that saw Aaron Rodgers put up four touchdowns in a road win. Now, the Steelers are home, hoping their defense can be a little stouter. The Seahawks, meanwhile, had a strong defensive showing in Week 1 but could use a little more offense. It will be interesting to see how these teams progress in Week 2.
Sunday Late Games:
Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at Kansas City Chiefs (0-1)
About: The Eagles won on opening night, while the Chiefs lost, and lost another receiver, in Brazil on Friday night. Now, for Week 2, we get a re-match of the Super Bowl. And this has plenty of stakes as the Chiefs can ill-afford to drop to 0-2 after seeing every other team in the AFC West get a Week 1 win. The Eagles, meanwhile, would like to move to 2-0 with a big win in Kansas City. This could be the best matchup of Week 2.
