After nearly a decade of futility and searching, the Broncos finally found a franchise quarterback. Bo Nix took the helm and guided the team to 10 wins and the playoffs. He seems to pair perfectly with Head Coach Sean Payton and a team that is building into something exciting for fans. But can the Broncos take a leap in 2025? Let’s dive in.

Off-Season Changes

The Broncos’ leading rusher, Javonte Williams, departed in free agency, signing with the Dallas Cowboys. The team saw other role players depart, too. Quarterback Zach Wilson departed, signing with the Miami Dolphins. Receiver Lil Jordan Humphrey left for the Giants, while punter Riley Dixon signed with the Buccaneers. The Broncos also traded second-year receiver DeVaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints, while linebacker Cody Barton signed with the Titans.

In free agency, the Broncos brought in J.K. Dobbins, who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards for the Chargers in 2024. He gives the backfield some pop. The team also brought in veteran receiver Trent Sherfield. On defense, the Broncos made a splash by signing linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga, both formerly of the 49ers. The biggest splash might have been signing tight end Evan Engram, who caught 234 passes on three years for the Jaguars.

In the draft, the Broncos made splashes on both sides of the ball. The team spent a First-Round selection on Jahdae Barron, a star corner who adds to an already deep position group. In the Second Round, the Broncos made a splash by acquiring R.J. Harvey from the University of Central Florida. Harvey rushed for 3,792 yards during his time in college and should be a weapon in the backfield. The team also added a good, young receiver in Pat Bryant in the Third Round.

Fantasy Impact

The Broncos are led by Nix, the first time since Peyton Manning retired that the team has no question at quarterback. He finished as a QB1 in 2024, and I suspect he’ll finish in the same range in 2025. In the backfield, I like Harvey this year, but Dobbins will also play a big part. I think Harvey leads the way as an RB2, with Dobbins as an RB3.

In the passing game, the Broncos are led by Courtland Sutton. He finished as WR15 in 2024. I like him as a WR2 again in 2025. Engram figures to play a role in the passing game, too. I like him as a low-end TE1. The question is how targets shakeout among the other receivers, Marvin Mims, Jr., Troy Franklin, and Bryant. I like all of them to contribute, with Mims and Franklin finishing highest among the group. They could be flex worthy.

The Bottom Line

The Broncos were one of the league’s biggest surprise teams in 2024. Now, they seem to have a groundswell of momentum. We can easily understand why as the offense and defense seem to have improved. But will the pressure be too much? Payton is talking Super Bowl, but one step at a time. I think the Broncos will win 10 or 11 games again and make the playoffs. But I’m not sure they’re quite ready for the biggest game.
