The Seahawks finished agonizingly close to the playoffs. Mere percentage points proved the difference as the Rams swept into the playoffs. Still, Mike Macdonald’s first season at the helm proved strong. But during the off-season the Seahawks made sweeping changes. That included bringing in Klint Kubiak to run the offense. The question is whether those changes will help or hurt the Seahawks. Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
The Seahawks changed leadership then made some wholesale changes to the offense. The team traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, then dealt Sam Howell to the Minnesota Vikings. But the Seahawks weren’t done. They dealt top receiver D.K. Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and let Tyler Lockett leave via free agency. Lockett is now with the Titans. Meanwhile, the Seahawks released tight end Noah Fant. All that leaves a very different looking offense on the field.
To fill the void at quarterback, the Seahawks brought back veteran Drew Lock and drafted Jalen Milroe. But the starter is Sam Darnold, who led the Vikings to a 14-3 record in 2024. He now sits atop the depth chart for the Seahawks. The team also added veteran receiver Cooper Kupp to add to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Kupp had 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns. The team also added veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling and rookie Tory Horton to help rebuild the receiving group.
In the draft, the Seahawks added Grey Zabel in the First Round to strengthen the Offensive Line. The team also added Nick Emmanwori at safety. In the Second Round the team also added Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo. He caught 35 passes for 590 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He gives the team a weapon and figures to be part of the solution at tight end with A.J. Barner.
Fantasy Impact
What should we expect from Darnold? He finished as QB9 in 2024, but it was by far the best season of his career. The Seahawks figure to be a run-first team, so Darnold is a QB2 for me. In the backfield, the team has Ken Walker III leading the way along with Zach Charbonnet. I have Walker as an RB2 thanks to some durability issues. Charbonnet could be an RB3 on his own, with upside if Walker misses time.
In the passing game, the team is led by JSN. I like him as a low-end WR1 and the best option in the passing game. Kupp is a good veteran addition. He should be in the WR3 range. I like what Horton showed in the pre-season. He’s a great dynasty hold but I don’t suspect he’ll have a stable floor this season. At tight end, Arroyo is my preference, but he’s a low-end TE2.
The Bottom Line
The Seahawks were an under-the-radar team in 2024. They’re likely an under-the-radar team again in 2025. I think they’ll have a good defense and a feisty offense, along with a great homefield advantage. The Seahawks should be in the nine-to-10-win range and challenge for the playoffs again.
