The wheels came off for Doug Pederson and the Jaguars in 2024. The team couldn’t get it together on offense or defense, then lost Trevor Lawrence for the season. It was a 5-12 disaster that led to the Jaguars parting ways with Pederson. Now, it’s up to Head Coach Liam Coen to get the Jaguars back on track. Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
The Jaguars traded veteran receiver Christian Kirk to the Houston Texans and saw tight end Evan Engram depart for the Denver Broncos, creating big changes in the passing unit. Backup quarterback Mac Jones also departed, signing with the San Francisco 49ers. Defensively, linebacker Caleb Johnson and cornerback Ronald Darby departed in free agency.
The Jaguars also added some new weapons. The team brought in receiver Dyami Brown from the Washington Commanders. Brown caught 59 passes for 784 yards in four years with the Commanders. The Jaguars also made a splash in the draft, taking the Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick. Hunter can play cornerback and receiver for the Jaguars. In his last year at Colorado, 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Fantasy Impact
Lawrence is the starter and was once a No. 1 overall pick. Can he get back on track? I have him as a QB2 in 2025. In the backfield, Travis Etienne, Jr., and Tank Bigsby split the work last year. Now, they’ve added rookie Bhayshul Tuten to the mix, too. I think all of them will have a role, but it’s likely Etienne and Bigsby leading things again. I have Etienne slightly higher, but both he and Bigsby in the RB3 range.
In the passing game, the Jaguars have a great one in returning receiver Brian Thomas, Jr, who finished as WR4 in 2024. I think he’s a WR1 again. Hunter and Brown will be in the mix, too. I like Hunter as a WR3, but Brown as a low-end flex option. At tight end, Brenton Strange stepped up for the Jaguars when Engram was out last year. I like him to grow again in 2025, finishing as a TE2.
The Bottom Line
The Jaguars had a better team than their record in 2024. They also had a better team than the one that ended on a long losing streak in 2023. The question is whether they can put it together. I think they’ll be better than the past two years, pushing closer to .500 in the eight-to-10-win mark. They could be a player for the Wild Card, but I’m not sure they make it in a crowded AFC.
