It was another strong season in 2024 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who saw Baker Mayfield thrive, the team win the NFC South, and advanced to the playoffs. But in the playoffs, the team came up short, losing to the Washington Commanders in the Wild Card Round. Now, the team is on to, yet another Offensive Coordinator as Liam Coen left to take the Head Coach slot at the Jacksonville Jaguars. Can the Buccaneers make the playoffs again? Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
The biggest change was Coen leaving. It’s another year and another Offensive Coordinator for the Buccaneers, this time with Josh Grizzard taking over. The team also had some changes on defense, with Shaq Barrett leaving the team and Joe Tryon leaving in free agency. Among other defenders who left in free agency are William Gholston, K.J. Britt and safety Mike Edwards.
The team also made some changes in free agency. The Buccaneers brought in veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater as a backup. The team also added Hasson Reddick in free agency to bolster the pass rush. In the draft, the team added another weapon in rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka. Egbuka caught 205 receptions for 2,868 yards and 24 touchdowns during his tenure at Ohio State.
Fantasy Impact
The Buccaneers are led by Mayfield, who finished as QB4 in 2024. Mayfield figures to be a QB1 again, despite the new coordinator, thanks to his strong core of weapons. In the backfield, rookie Bucky Irving broke out in 2024. He finished as RB13 in 2024. He figures to improve on that in season two, and I like him as an RB1. Rachaad White is still in the mix, but he’s more of an RB3.
In the passing game, the Buccaneers re-signed Chris Godwin, who is coming back off injury. Mike Evans is still there, and he has yet to have less than 1,000 yards in a season. Now, the team added Egbuka and second-year man Jalen McMillan in the mix. All of them are talented. In Dynasty, Egbuka is the top option. In re-draft, I think Evans is still the top finisher, as a low-end WR2. I like Godwin, coming back off injury, and Egbuka in the WR3 range, with McMillan more of a WR4. Tight end Cade Otton had some great moments in 2024, but it’s a crowded pass-catching group. He’s a TE2 for me.
The Bottom Line
The NFC South is probably the weakest division in the NFC. That being said, I like the Buccaneers. The team has a talented roster that figures to thrive again in 2025. I like the Buccaneers to win the division and be the lone playoff team from the division.
