The 2025 NFL Season is here. To get you ready for the action, we’ll be previewing each of the 32 NFL Teams as well as offering predictions for year-end award winners and playoff participants. Check back here each day through September 3 for another installment of the 2025 NFL Preview series.
The Packers finished third in the NFC North in 2024. Still, they won 11 games and made the playoffs, serving as a tough out against the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. That shows just how good the NFC and the Packers’ division was in 2024. Now, with most of the big players returning and a boost from the draft, can the Packers go further in 2025? Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
It was a quiet off-season for the Packers. The team saw running back A.J. Dillion move on, signing with the Eagles. The Packers also released cornerback Jaire Alexander after a contract dispute. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Fellow cornerback Eric Stokes left in free agency for the New York Jets.
In free agency, the Packers added linebacker Isaiah Simmons and cornerback Nate Hobbs to bolster the defense. They also added veteran receiver Mecole Hardman. But the biggest offensive addition came in the draft, where the Packers added Matthew Golden in the First Round. Golden caught 58 passes for 987 yards and nine touchdowns with Texas last season, and is one of the fastest players in the draft. He figures to be a weapon in the passing game.
Fantasy Impact
The Packers are again led by Jordan Love, now in his third season as starter for the Packers. He’s a solid quarterback but the Packers’ offense focuses on run-first, making Love more of a QB2. In the backfield, the addition of Josh Jacobs took the offense to a new level in 2024. He finished as RB6 last season. I like him to finish in the RB1 range again this season.
The passing game is more of an open question. The team added Golden to a group that includes Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and Dontavyion Wicks at receiver, and Tucker Kraft at tight end. Kraft was solid at tight end, and I like his role on the team. I think he’s a low-end TE1 again in 2025. But what about the receivers? Where’s the fantasy value?
That’s a question we’ll be grappling with all seasons. Watson suffered a major injury at the end of the season and isn’t expected to be available in 2025 until late, if at all. That clarifies things some. Doubs, meanwhile, is a solid possession receiver, but probably more of a WR4/5. I think the top targets are Golden, the rookie, and Reed. This is an offense that spreads the ball around and focuses on the run. Reed is my pick to finish as the top receiver, in the WR3 range. I think Golden ends up with some boom games, but in the WR4 range.
The Bottom Line
The Packers have a solid roster and a great coaching staff. They are probably the most under-the-radar team in the NFC North. I expect them to win between nine and 11 games and again compete for the playoffs.
