The Jets finally got to see what life would look like with a healthy Aaron Rodgers. The former MVP was the starter all season, but the Jets were worse. A disastrous season ended at 5-12 and saw Head Coach Robert Saleh relieved of duties. Now, the Jets are in a new era with Head Coach Aaron Glenn. Will it be enough to turn it all around? Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
The Jets parted ways with Rodgers, who is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team also parted ways with receiver Davante Adams, who they acquired mid-season. Adams signed with the Los Angeles Rams. Tight end Tyler Conklin also moved on, signing with the Chargers. Defensively, the Jets saw a number of players depart. Those who left include Hasson Reddick, Javon Kinlaw, and D.J. Reed.
But the Jets made a move to get a new franchise quarterback, signing Justin Fields to a two-year deal. Fields started the first six games for the Steelers in 2024, finishing as QB6 during that stretch. He now has a chance to jump start his career in New York. The Jets added veteran receivers in Josh Reynolds and Tyler Johnson to bolster the receiver group. The Jets also used a Second-Round pick on LSU tight end Mason Taylor, who caught 129 passes in three seasons for the Tigers.
Fantasy Impact
Fields has never thrown for 3,000 or more yards in a season, but he’s often been quite productive for fantasy. That figures to continue, as the hope is he takes a step up as a passer. I think he’s a high-end QB2 this season. In the backfield, the team uses Breece Hall as the lead back with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis in the mix. Glenn has said it is a three-headed monster in the backfield. That’s good for the Jets, but a quagmire for fantasy. Still, Hall finished as RB16 in 2024. Some of that was due to his passing game prowess, which hasn’t been a strength in Fields-led offenses. He’s a low-end RB2 for me, while Allen is an RB4. Allen feels like a better dynasty stash.
In the passing game, it’s all about Garrett Wilson. He finished as WR10 and figures to be THE man in the passing game. He’s a high end WR2 for me with upside. There isn’t another receiver I trust in re-draft, but I haven’t given up on Malachi Corley in dynasty. I like Taylor in dynasty, but he’s more of a low-end TE2 for re-draft.
The Bottom Line
I like Glenn as a coach. Can he fix the Jets? It’s a tall order, but I like the roster and some potential. They won’t be the greatest team for fantasy, but I think the Jets will be more competitive in 2025, probably closer to .500. I’m not sold they make the playoffs, but I’m excited to see Fields take a step forward.
