It was a near dream season for the Commanders in 2025. With new coach Dan Quinn at the helm and Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels under center, the team thrived. The Commanders won 12 games and made the playoffs. They continued that Cinderella run into the playoffs, where they made it from Wild Card to the NFC Championship Game. The question is what the team can do for an encore in 2025.

Off-Season Changes

The Commanders saw a couple of receivers leave, with Dyami Brown heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Olamide Zaccheaus heading to the Chicago Bears. The team also lost a few veterans on defense, with defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and Dante Fowler, Jr. departing in free agency. Safety Jeremy Chinn also left, signing with the Las Vegas Raiders.

But the team reloaded with talent. On defense, the team brought in Eddie Goldman and Javon Kinlaw on the defensive line. In the secondary, the team added veteran Jonathan Jones at cornerback and drafted corner Trey Amos in the Second Round. The team also added veteran pass rusher Von Miller.

Offensively, the biggest addition was a trade for 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel. Samuel has been a weapon for the 49ers, grabbing 334 passes for 4,792 yards in six seasons in San Francisco. He’s also a two-way threat, rushing for 1,143 yards and 20 touchdowns. He gives the team a strong No. 2 option in the passing game.

Fantasy Impact

The Commanders found a good one in Daniels, who finished as QB5 on the season. He was a strong passer and also the Commanders’ top rusher. He has QB1 upside, making him a great play in dynasty and re-draft. In the backfield, the team has Brian Robinson, Jr. and Austin Ekeler back again. They were a serviceable pair in 2024 and figure to be more of the same. Robinson is an RB3 for me, while Ekeler is an RB4.

In the passing game, the main threat is Terry McLaurin. He finished as WR7 on the season, catching 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. He wants a new deal, which has caused friction. But assuming the Commanders get that solved, he figures to be in the conversation as a low-end WR1. With Samuel in and the return of tight end Zach Ertz, who finished as TE7 last season, the Commanders have some weapons. The question is what role Ben Sinnott plays in year two. For now, I think Ertz is a TE2 with upside, and Samuel in the WR4 range for me.

The Bottom Line

The Commanders took the league by storm and caught many by surprise in 2024. People will see it coming in 2025, but that doesn’t mean the Commanders will disappoint. I think they’ll be a strong contender, challenging the Eagles for the top of the division. I expect to see them back in the playoffs this post-season.
