An adaptation of May Cobb’s novel has been in the works for quite a while, and Netflix picked it up and is set to release it on the streaming platform, Hunting Wives. Rebecca Cutter, who is known for working on shows like Gotham and The Mentalist is the showrunner, with the series starring Malik Akerman, Brittany Snow, Dermot Mulroney, and Chrissy Metz. I reviewed the first three episodes of the series, which is set to debut on Netflix on July 21.

What is the The Hunting Wives about?

Based on the bestselling novel by May Cobb, “The Hunting Wives” tells the story of Sophie and her family’s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo Bank’s irresistible charms – and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction, and murder.

When and where can you watch The Hunting Wives?

All eight episodes The Hunting Wives will stream on Netflix on July 21.

The Hunting Wives – TV Review

The series kicks off with us meeting Sophie and Graham O’Neil, who have moved to Texas and are off to meet with Graham’s new boss at an event. Upon arriving at the event, Sophie realizes that it is an NRA event, which she isn’t too fond of being at. Sophie learns quickly that her new atmosphere is filled with gun-loving, border patrol-loving racists, and although it rubs her the wrong way, she befriends Margo, who is head of the wives group.

The show’s foundation is based on this friendship between Margo and Sophie. Sophie has a troubled past that has caused her husband, Graham, to be a little bit controlling. However, Margo doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum and starts to open Sophie’s eyes to the potential of what she is missing out on. Of course this causes friction back home with her husband. The dynamic opens the door for lots of drama and craziness among the couple and the secrets of the town.

The writing of this series is twisted, and I love every minute of it. I haven’t read the book, so I can’t compare the two, but I believe that if it comes anywhere close, people will be raving about this show for weeks to come. The political ramifications within the show should be interesting to watch unfold in the media because it does dive into the behind-the-scenes affairs, money dealing, and hush money.

Malik Akerman and Brittany Snow are magnificent together. The chemistry, hell, even the sexual tension is off the charts. These two play so well off one another, and the story arc between these two plays out so perfectly. Please give me more of these two together in future seasons. The supporting cast is also a delight, with Dermot Mulroney being a gem as he always is. You know if he is on the screen, he is adding an fascinating layer to the show.

Oh, one thing is for sure is The Hunting Wives is about to become everyone’s next obsession. A twisted layer of affairs, drama, and political craziness is quite a beautiful mess to watch unfold. The script keeps you on the edge of your seat at every turn. Malik Akerman and Brittany Snow are excellent together, and I highly recommend checking this show out.
