I Love You Forever, follows Mackenzie (Sofia Black-D’Elia) a young adult student at school who is in a not-very-good relationship with a person who only cares about using her for sex. She then meets Finn (Ray Nicholson), and they both instantly fall in love. For a while, it’s the perfect romance until Finn becomes super obsessive, and the relationship becomes toxic.

I thought this film was very good; I was engaged from the start. I Love You Forever also manages to be extremely funny despite its darker moments. It’s surprising how much comedy there is, especially between two of Mackenzie’s friends she lives with. Despite the limited locations, they do a great job of making you feel like you’re there with the characters. I also liked the characters’ outfits and shoes.

The cast is fantastic and delivers outstanding performances. Sofia Black-D’Elia does a great job of making you like Mackenzie, and you instantly feel sorry for her character. As the film progresses, you realise how kind she is as a person, but also how toxic the relationship has become. Sofia does a great job portraying someone who is happy and in love, with sparks in her eyes, but she can also do the complete opposite and act scared, anxious, and slightly depressed. Ray Nicholson is also amazing in his role, portraying a darker and scarier character. He does a great job of being manipulative, twisting things to make Mackenzie feel guilty. Ray can also switch from acting all nice and friendly to completely changing to his dark side.

I enjoyed this film, but unfortunately, the ending was a letdown. It ended very abruptly with not much of a conclusion. The ending was what disappointed me, but aside from the final scene, the rest of the film is great. Overall, I thought I Love You Forever was a fantastic film that shows the dark side of dating in a way that’s realistic while adding plenty of comedy throughout.
