Carry On follows Ethan (Taron Egerton), who works in security and bag checking at the airport. His girlfriend (Sofia Carson) also works at the airport but in a different section. Ethan switches to a different job than usual and gets a text asking him to put in a headphone. Here, a man tells him that he has to do what he says and let a bag get through security, or he will shoot his girlfriend. Will Ethan be able to save his girlfriend and keep everyone in the airport safe?

Carry On is a good film with a strong cast. Ethan is a kind character, and the film establishes this very early on. His girlfriend is a bit more stubborn. The film has some good action and an interesting, engaging story. The cast is great, and Taron and Sofia work well together as partners. I enjoyed the cinematography in this film, especially a car action scene, which felt like a one-shot take. A clever aspect of the film is a scene you don’t think much of at first, but later on, it becomes an important part of the story that helps warn people. One surprising element to the story is they had a twist I did not see coming, this helped improve the film’s second half.

The story did have some elements that made it not as good as I had hoped it would be. I felt it was similar in numerous ways to Red Eye, but it didn’t do as good of a job at capturing tension, unlike Red Eye. This was a letdown, as the film could have been improved by having more tension. When watching, the story felt like the leads were never in real danger. The film also didn’t explain much about the girlfriend’s job or what she did at the airport and I would have liked to know more about her role.

Carry On is a fun Christmas action thriller that I would recommend, but sadly, the film lets you down on the tension and never fully makes you worry for the characters safety.
