The 2024 NFL Season is rapidly approaching. The season kicks off on Thursday, September 5 and every day through Monday, September 2 we’ll be going team-by-team as we preview the new season. Be sure to come back here every afternoon as we look at a new team and get your ready for the 2024 season. We’ll cover off-season changes, the fantasy prospects, and the prediction for how the team will fare this season.
The 2023 season wasn’t great for the Giants. After making the playoffs the year before, the Giants got off to a painfully slow start, including some early season blowouts. By the time Daniel Jones was lost of the year, the Giants were out of it. This off-season, the team lost some key players but after a good draft they’re focused on being better in 2024. Let’s dive in.
Off-Season Changes
Free agency wasn’t kind to the Giants to start. Star running back Saquon Barkley signed with the division rival Eagles, then safety Xavier McKinney signed with the Green Bay Packers. The team also saw tight end Darren Waller opt for retirement. But the Giants did make some moves, acquiring pass rusher Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers. The team also boosted the offensive line, bringing in guard Jon Runyan and tackle Jermaine Eluemunor. The team also swapped backup quarterbacks with Tyrod Taylor going to the Jets while the Giants signed Drew Lock. To fill the void in the backfield, the team signed Devin Singletary, who ran for Head Coach Brian Daboll in Buffalo. With the Texans in 2023, Singletary rushed for a career-high 898 yards and four touchdowns, catching 30 passes.
In the draft, the team made a splash by taking former LSU receiver Malik Nabers in the First Round. Nabers caught 189 passes for 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns in three seasons. He gives the Giants a true No. 1 option. The Giants grabbed safety Tyler Nubin and cornerback Andru Phillips in the next two rounds, then grabbed tight end Theo Johnson and running back Tyrone Tracy, Jr., in later rounds.
Fantasy Prospects
The big question is Jones. He was good enough in 2022 to earn a big extension, then faded in 2023. Can he bounce back? That’s the Giants’ big bet in 2024. I like him to do better and to finish in QB2 territory. In the backfield, I like Singletary. He’s thrived in the past with Daboll and should be solid again. He’s not Barkley, but he could be a low-end RB2, though I like him more as a high-end RB3. I think Eric Gray and/or Tracy could contribute, but little is more than a situational deep league flex.
In the passing game, Nabers leads a group that includes Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt, among others. I like Nabers to finish in WR2 range. Robinson has some WR5/Flex appeal, as does Slayton. Slayton is the top option if Nabers misses time. I’m not buying into Hyatt, who feels like a boom/bust flex option. At tight end, Daniel Bellinger feels like the leader but it’s likely a committee. I’m staying away, though Johnson is a Dynasty stash.
Prediction
The Giants have a dismal roster and more questions than answers. If everything breaks right, they could be an eight- or nine-win team again. But I like them better as a four- or five-win team. I think that will put Jones squarely in the crosshairs when we arrive at next off-season and put the heat on Daboll as well.
