The 2024 NFL Season is rapidly approaching. The season kicks off on Thursday, September 5 and every day through Monday, September 2 we’ll be going team-by-team as we preview the new season. Be sure to come back here every afternoon as we look at a new team and get your ready for the 2024 season. We’ll cover off-season changes, the fantasy prospects, and the prediction for how the team will fare this season.

The Bills had an up-and-down season in 2023. They started out strong and then struggled at the mid-point. It was even a question as to whether they had what it took to make the playoffs. But the Bills finished strong and overtook the Miami Dolphins to win the AFC East. The team won its first playoff game before falling short against an old foe, the Kansas City Chiefs, in the Divisional Round. After seeing a host of veterans depart this off-season, the Bills will be trying to find magic again in 2024 before their Super Bowl window closes.

Off-Season Changes

The team saw several veterans depart this off-season. On offense, center Mitch Morse left in free agency along with receiver Gabe Davis, while the team’s top receiver, Stefon Diggs, was traded to the Houston Texans. On defense the Bills also lost a number of starters, particularly in the secondary. Leonard Floyd, corners Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson, and safety Jordan Poyer all left. But the Bills did welcome back quarterback Mitch Trubisky as insurance for Josh Allen and added right tackle La’el Collins. The team also added safety Kareem Jackson and wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The team signed Curtis Samuel from the Commanders to boost the passing attack. Over the last two seasons he caught 126 passes for 1,269 yards.

In the draft, the team also worked to re-build the passing group. The Bills used a Second-Round pick to snag Florida State receiver Keon Coleman. Last season he caught 50 passes for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns. He could be a weapon and a deep threat for Allen. The team used a second Second-Round pick to snag safety Cole Bishop, then grabbed running back Ray Davis in the Fourth Round. Davis provides depth behind starter James Cook.

Fantasy Prospects

Allen was QB1 in 2023, largely owing to his prowess as a runner. While the receivers are new, I don’t think much changes for Allen. I still like him as a Top 5 option at QB. In the backfield, Cook finished as RB12. The Bills put an emphasis on the running game the back half of 2023 and look to continue that. I like Cook as an RB1 again. Davis is an interesting dynasty stash who could have some low-end flex value.

In the passing game, I don’t think any receiver tops the charts like Diggs in 2023. Samuel, Coleman, and Khalil Shakir look to be in the mix for the team. I think all of them have some value, but I like Samuel to lead the group. He’s a low-end WR4 for me. At tight end, the Bills have second-year man Dalton Kincaid and veteran Dawson Knox. Kincaid, a First-Round selection in 2023, ended the season strong. I like him to finish as a Top 12 option at tight end in 2024.

Prediction

The AFC East appears to be loaded with good teams in Buffalo, New York, and Miami. I think all three will finish above .500 and fight for the playoffs. The Bills could well win the division again if things break the right way, but at a minimum I think the team wins 10 or 11 games and makes the playoffs once again.
