Incoming follows Benji, played by Mason Thames, and his friends Eddie (Ramon Reed), Connor (Raphael Alejandro), and Danah (Bardia Seri) attend a party, all while Benji is trying to get the girl of his dreams, Bailey (Isabella Farreira).

I enjoyed this film, far better than most teen comedy films in recent years. The cast gives strong performances, showcasing fantastic chemistry. Each character and actor adds a unique, funny charm to the film, making it fun to watch. I was invested in the storyline and rooted for the characters throughout. I was interested to see how the story would turn out. I laughed a few times throughout. The teacher, in particular, was a standout, bringing a fabulous and memorable presence to the film.

Additionally, there were some humorous moments involving the friends and Katrina (Loren Gray). Other standout scenes included interactions with Gabrielle (Victoria Moroles). I enjoyed the film’s visual style and colors; it gave me a summer vibe. I wish some characters, especially Benji’s sister Alyssa (Ali Gallo), were kinder. However, I liked that they became slightly nicer at the end.

I found the first twenty minutes of Incoming less engaging than the rest of the film. I wasn’t as captivated despite a few good moments. One issue was the unnecessary swearing, which often felt like filler rather than natural dialogue. This was an attempt to resonate with a current teen audience but came across as trying too hard, resulting in unrealistic moments. Another example is when a character films a TikTok post, yet the style more closely resembles an Instagram story. This felt unrealistic. These are not significant issues but could prevent others from continuing the film.

Additionally, I found some of the camera angles too close up, making certain scenes feel cramped. The film could have benefited from more wide shots to provide better context and more enjoyable visual clarity. One instance was when a character kicked someone, and the shot cut off the action. There were several other occasions where the zoom was too far in, which slightly detracted from the viewing experience. The ending was abrupt, and I would have liked a bit more of a conclusion wrap-up scene.

Overall, Incoming is a fun film with a few laughs, engaging characters, and an entertaining plot that makes for a great time. It stands out among current teen comedies and is worth watching. 3.5 🌟
