Thelma is a unique drama comedy about an old lady who gets scammed, so she goes on a mission to find the scammer and get her money back, all while trying to escape her overprotective grandson. Thelma is based on a true story about the director/writer Josh Margolin’s grandmother.
Thelma is a good film that could be funny at times, and the film took inspiration and made you feel like you were watching Fast and Furious, but instead of cars, it was mobility scooters at times. June Squibb, who plays Thelma, has excellent chemistry with Fred Hechinger, who plays Danny, the grandson, and you could tell they got along well while filming. The plot has a heart but can get slightly dark and emotional sometimes.
The pacing of Thelma was a bit slow at the start, and it took a while for me to feel fully engaged with the story. However, once the story got going, I found myself enjoying the film. The story could have benefited from a few more exciting moments; the added action moments would have helped improve the film’s slower pace. Thelma is a good film worth watching. It ranges from comedy to action and heart; this movie has it all. I recommend watching, and I feel like you will have fun!
