The Present is a heartwarming family film about a family whose kids parents played by, Isla Fisher and Greg Kinnear are getting a divorce. The children discover a magical clock that allows them to travel back in time, they embark on a quest to prevent their family from falling apart. Will they succeed in keeping their parents together?
I enjoyed this film more than I expected, and the subject matter is one I and others can relate to. The story has some good and surprising moments. The film was clever in showing each member of the family’s day and would show the same day from different character’s perspectives, this made the story more engaging and exciting. The Present wasn’t a comedy but did have a few scenes that made me chuckle. The cast were great and all gave strong performances, I felt one of the highlight performances was Shay Rudolph who is talented and great at portraying Emma, although I did think her character was slightly more mean to the other siblings. Easton Rocket Sweda plays Taylor who doesn’t talk, so he relies more on facial expressions to show how his character feels.
The film did have some flaws. The film started very slow and I found myself not very interested or engaged in the first 20 minutes or so but after that, I was engaged and excited to see what would happen. I also found the film to be slightly predictable and guessed what the outcome would be early on, including what would happen with the time machine. I would have liked the film to maybe of had more comedy, although the film is fun it’s also a bit serious and more of a drama, family film. The movie is rated PG, and I was surprised it had a brief scene with condoms and they sweared in it.
The Present has a nice story and is a fun film worth watching, It is great to see with families and teenagers, I would recommend! 3.5 🌟
