The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books, so it’s time to take stock of the players as we head into rookie drafts. Over the next few pieces, I’ll be going position-by-position through my rookie rankings. That begins with quarterbacks.
Class of 2024 QBs:
Tier 1:
Caleb Williams, Bears
Jayden Daniels, Commanders
About: I have these two alone post-draft. Williams figures to be no worse than the 1.02 in rookie Superflex drafts, but Daniels lands in a decent spot with weapons and coaches, too. These guys should go in the Top 5 picks of a Superflex draft.
Tier 2:
J.J. McCarthy, Vikings
Drake Maye, Patriots
Bo Nix, Broncos
About: This is the next group for me. McCarthy gets the nod over Maye due to landing spot. I like Maye’s talent enough that he’s a consideration for Tier 1, but the Patriots offense is a question. They haven’t improved much, if at all, since taking Mac Jones. Will Alex Van Pelt be enough to help Maye succeed? I still have some questions. Still, in a Superflex league, these three should all be in the First Round.
Tier 3:
Michael Penix, Jr., Falcons
About: Penix, sadly, is in a tier on his own. I know some will be convinced to take him in the First Round thanks to his being taken at No. 8 overall. I think that’s a mistake. It’s likely he doesn’t see the field for a couple years—if ever. In Superflex, maybe I’d go for him in the late Second Round, but I’d rather wait until the Third Round. I probably won’t have many shares.
Tier 4:
Spencer Rattler, Saints
Jordan Travis, Jets
Michael Pratt, Packers
Sam Hartman, Commanders
Joe Milton, Patriots
Kedon Slovis, Colts
About: These guys were all part of my Top 12 pre-draft. None landed in an ideal spot to see playing time early. In fact, many here could be career backups. Two (Milton and Hartman) went to teams that took a QB in the First Round. But all of them are developmental guys that could go late Third Round or in the Fourth Round. The two I like best are Rattler and Travis due to the potential to have a future path.
The Rest:
Devin Leary, Ravens
Tanner Mordecai, 49ers
Carter Bradley, Raiders
Spencer Sanders, Chiefs
John Rhys Plumlee, Steelers
Austin Reed, Bears
Jake Plummer, Panthers
Gavin Hardison, Dolphins
About: These players all signed as Undrafted Free Agents. I am not sure any of them need to go in a rookie draft or be rostered. Maybe you take one in Superflex if you have a Taxi Squad slot. The most interesting to me is Bradley, simply due to the Raiders’ depth chart.
