We have just about a month until the NFL Free Agent Frenzy begins. That’s soon followed by the draft as teams begin preparing for the 2024 campaign. Prior to the start of free agency, over the next four weeks, I’m going to be looking at 10 options at each of the key offensive positions—quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end—that could make a fantasy impact. Today I wrap up with tight ends. There are a few interesting options on the market that could contribute in fantasy. We’ve already seen the two biggest re-sign.

Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans
About
: After earning the Franchise Tag from the Dallas Cowboys in 2022, Schultz hit the open market in 2023. He signed a one-year deal with the Texans and ended up having a strong season and contributing to a good, young offense. He caught 59 passes for 635 yards and five touchdowns, more receptions and yards than he had in 2022. The Texans re-signed Schultz to a new three-year deal, giving them a great pass-catching tight end for C.J. Stroud.

Hunter Henry, New England Patriots
About
: A few years ago, Henry signed one of the biggest free agent contracts for a tight end. He went from the Chargers to the Patriots and proved to be the most dependable part of the pass offense there. Over the past three seasons, he’s caught 133 passes for 1,531 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’s often been a low-end fantasy relevant option, too. The Patriots signed Henry to a new, three-year contract Friday to ensure their big tight end remains a part of the passing attack.

Mike Gesicki, New England Patriots
About
: Gesicki was another player that got the Franchise Tag in 2022 and hit the open market in 2023. He signed a one-year deal with the Patriots, and I hoped to see him bounce back. Instead, he wasn’t much of a factor even for a receiver-needy Patriots team. He caught just 29 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Now, he hits the market again. I still think he can make a splash for the right team but if you’re rostering him, have a backup option. It’s hard to tell what his market will be.

Noah Fant, Seattle Seahawks
About
: Fant has had an interesting career. He’s a player with plenty of talent but he’s been trapped in under-whelming pass offenses, or among too many other targets. In Seattle last season, both were true. In a middling pass offense with D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, there wasn’t enough consistent targets for Fant. He was limited to a career-low 32 receptions for 414 yards and no touchdowns. But I like the talent, and I think he could be a sneaky add in anticipation of landing in a better situation.

Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Chargers
About
: Everett was a trendy late-round TE target in 2023. He was a key cog in what seemed like a good pass offense. That didn’t pan out. Still, he caught 109 passes over the last two years for the Chargers. He’s a solid veteran pass catcher that could have fantasy value in the right landing spot. Right now, he’s a hold for me.

Austin Hooper, Las Vegas Raiders
About:
It feels like an eternity since Hooper had his best seasons with the Falcons. We’ve seen him with the Browns, Titans, and Raiders since that point, and he’s only occasionally fantasy-relevant in those locations. He feels like little more than veteran depth at this point.

Irv Smith, Cincinnati Bengals
About
: Smith was once a Second-Round draft pick who battled injuries with the Vikings. It seemed like signing with a good offense in the Bengals would be a chance to re-boot. It didn’t happen. He caught just 18 passes for 115 yards in 12 games. At this point, I’d need to see Smith land a consistent role before I felt comfortable relying on him in fantasy.

Adam Trautman, Denver Broncos
About
: Trautman was once a high pick in New Orleans by Sean Payton. When he went to Denver, there was intrigue. That only went up when Greg Dulcich was injured and missed most of the season. But, despite being the starting tight end for the 2023 season, Trautman didn’t contribute much in the passing game. He caught just 22 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns. He’s a low-end veteran TE at this point.

Robert Tonyan, Chicago Bears
About
: After a couple strong seasons with the Packers, Tonyan signed a one-year deal with the rival Bears. It didn’t do much for him or his fantasy value. He caught just 11 passes for 112 yards in 17 games. He feels like a part-time contributor in the passing game who is more of a depth piece and blocker at this point.

Harrison Bryant, Cleveland Browns
About
: This is more of a speculative add, but I’ve liked the potential for Bryant for a few years. The problem has been he was buried on a depth chart. The Browns have a great tight end in David Njoku, which limited Bryant’s opportunities. We’ve seen flashes. He caught 89 passes in four seasons, but 10 of those were for touchdowns. I’m stashing Bryant right now hoping he gets a bigger opportunity in 2024.
