Tonight, the Green Bay Packers travel to battle the Las Vegas Raiders to wrap up the fifth week of the NFL Season. It’s a crucial game for both teams and figures to be an even battle. I’ll preview the game below, but first let’s consider what we’ve learned so far during Week 5 of the NFL Season.

The Jaguars love London

Traveling to play in London puts pressure on teams but it seems to be working for the Jaguars. They’ve long played well in London and the 2023 season was no different. The Jaguars were 1-2 with more questions than answers as they headed to London for back-to-back games. In Week 4, the Jaguars got right with a big win over the Falcons. In Week 5, they doubled down and withstood a tough test against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills came in having posted double-digit victories over their past three opponents. The Jaguars turned the tables, dominating much of the game and holding on for a 25-20 win. Now, the Jaguars are 3-2 and riding a big wave of momentum heading into Week 6.

The New England Patriots are in trouble

It’s been a bad start for the Patriots. After going 0-2, the team eeked out a win over the Jets in an ugly performance. Since then, the team has been outscored 72-3. And in both games, starter Mac Jones has been given the hook. First it was a 38-3 loss to the Cowboys in Week 4. Sunday, it was a 34-0 thrashing at home against the New Orleans Saints. The Patriots’ offense needed to improve this season for the team to take a step forward and it just isn’t happening. The same is true for Jones, now in his third season, who is looking less like a franchise quarterback each week.

And then there was one

There were two winless teams heading into Week 5, but the Bears erased that quickly with a 40-20 win over the Commanders. The Panthers, meanwhile, slumped to 0-5 with a 42-24 loss to the Lions. The Panthers have looked bad at times so far this season as No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young continues to try and find his footing in the NFL. A Week 6 meeting with the Dolphins doesn’t figure to help. But don’t panic yet Panthers fans, following the Dolphins game the Panthers play the Texans, Colts and Bears in consecutive weeks. After that we’ll know a lot more about Young and this Panthers team.

And now, on to the Monday night game.

Green Bay Packers (2-2) at Las Vegas Raiders (1-3)

The Packers are 2-2 but they’ve been far from dominant. They beat the Bears and earned a Week 3 win over the Saints on a big comeback before being handled by the Lions at home in Week 4. The Raiders, meanwhile, earned a Week 1 victory before losing three straight. But Jimmy Garoppolo is back, and the Raiders are hungry.

For fantasy, for the Packers I’m starting Aaron Jones but I’m nervous. Jones was solid in Week 1 but missed two weeks with injury and was stifled in Week 4. Still, he should be more productive here. In the passing game, Jordan Love is a QB2 for me while Romeo Doubs is the receiver I prefer. He’s a solid WR3. Christian Watson has the big play upside, but he’s more of a flex for me.

For the Raiders, Jimmy G. is back and should be a solid QB2. I like Davante Adams as a WR1 if he plays, and he should, while Jakobi Myers is a WR3 with upside. I’m also bullish on Josh Jacobs, who got going in Week 4 and should be in for a big night.

I’m taking the Raiders in this one.
