The 2023 NFL Season is here, and the Music City Drive In is getting you ready. Check back each day from now until September 3 as we look at each team and make award and playoff predictions. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments.

At one point, the Jets were 6-3 heading into the bye week. The team appeared to be poised to make a playoff run. In the second half of the season, things went off the rails. The team finished a woeful 7-10, in last place in the AFC East. That led to changes this off-season.

Off-Season Changes

The biggest change for the Jets came at quarterback, as the team was able to acquire Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is 147-75-1 in 18 seasons leading the Packers. He comes with a wealth of experience and a Super Bowl ring. He’s also thrown for 59,055 yards and 475 touchdowns in his career. He’s the stable franchise quarterback the team has been looking for.

The team also brought in some new weapons, including former Packers’ receiver Allen Lazard and former Chiefs’ receiver Mecole Hardman. The team also signed Randall Cobb at receiver and added another former Packer in safety Adrian Amos. The Jets added Greg Zuerlein as the new kicker as well. Recently the team also picked up Dalvin Cook, the former Vikings’ back. Cook rushed for 5,993 yards and 47 touchdowns in six seasons. He adds veteran pop in the backfield.

In the draft, the team worked to beef up the roster. In the First Round, the Jets added a pass rusher in Will McDonald. With its next two picks, the Jets added a pair of offensive linemen in center Joe Tippman and tackle Carter Warren. Finally, the team added backfield depth in Israel Abanikanda.

Fantasy Impact

Rodgers is the man at quarterback. He was QB13 a year ago, and I think he’s got low-end QB1 upside. In the backfield, the Jets have Cook and second-year man Breece Hall is returning from injury. The team also has Michael Carter, who could be something of a third-down receiving option, and Zonovan Knight. My suspicion is that Cook will be the lead back, splitting most of the work with Hall this season. Hall still has better long-term value, but the presence of both lowers both their fantasy value for 2023.

In the passing game, the Jets are led by second-year receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson caught 83 passes for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns. I like him as a WR1. Lazard was WR35 for the Packers a year ago, and could well be a WR3 as the Jets’ No. 2 receiver. Hardman and Corey Davis feel more like dart throws. I do like tight end Tyler Conklin. He was TE16 as season ago and should be a high-end TE2.

Prediction

There is a lot of buzz around the Jets, who are the Hard Knocks team this year. I could see a wide range of outcomes, including missing the playoffs. I think the Jets more likely win nine or 10 games and are in the thick of the hunt behind the Bills and Dolphins in the AFC East.
