Buffy Revamped is an extraordinary one-person show written and performed by the talented Brendan Murphy and skillfully directed by Hamish MacDougall. In seventy minutes, the production recaps all seven seasons of the beloved series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” narrated through the eyes of the character, Spike.

Approaching the show, I hesitated about a solo performance, but my concerns quickly disappeared. “Buffy Revamped” was an immensely enjoyable experience, exceeding my expectations. The production boasted an impressive array of elements, including lighting, well-crafted props, music, smoke, and a projector to enhance the various settings. Including these elements was a pleasant surprise, elevating the overall quality and ensuring a truly engaging experience. Brendan Murphy’s acting shone brilliantly throughout the performance, with energy and skill. He seamlessly transitioned between different characters from the original series. Brendan’s dedication to each portrayal was remarkable, whether it involved altering his outfits or changing his voice to show deep masculinity or girlish charm, among other things. His portrayal of Angel stood out. Through clever hand techniques and the creative use of a jacket and coat hanger, Brendan portrayed Angel and Spike masterfully blurring the lines between them.

At one point near the start, he said lots of information to where I felt a bit tired, but Brendan skillfully addressed this concern. He realized the audience’s potential tiredness and cleverly integrated references to it within the script, ensuring that everyone remained engaged throughout the performance. Moreover, Brendan effortlessly fostered audience participation, creating an immersive atmosphere that heightened the connection between the show and its viewers. He also sang covers and songs throughout. Buffy Revamped is a fantastic show, but the only issue I had was lots of the jokes I didn’t understand. This could be due to my age, everyone around me was laughing.

Brendan Murphy is extremely talented and travels to numerous locations show after show I’m surprised how he always keeps the same energy and remembers everything but he always pulls it off. Buffy fans will love this show and even if you are not a Buffy fan you will still enjoy it and get lots of laughs. 4 ⭐️
