We have arrived at West Side Story weekend and I couldn’t be more excited. I am not always enamored by musicals or movies based on music, but when they are done right, I am all in. So, with that being said, I am going to share my favorite music movies of all time.
- La La Land
From the opening number to the final credits, Damien Chazelle brought the life, love and heartbreak within the words and songs throughout the film. Two star-studded performances, great music by Justin Hurwitz and the perfect ending make this number one on my list. - Chicago
As a young teenager trying to figure out life, I was in love the moment I watched Chicago. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger gave two fantastic performances in this breathtaking musical that made me fall in love with them. I love love love love love this movie. - Rocketman
The idea of someone playing Elton John is outrageous, but Taron Egerton brings to life one of the most dynamic musicians of all time. The story covered a long period in a way that never felt bloated or overdone. Egerton was robbed of an Oscar Nomination. - A Star is Born
With this soothing yet charismatic voice, Cooper stole the hearts out of every one of us. I loved his performance, but his work behind the camera was something of beauty. The pairing of him and Gaga worked in a way that their entire performance felt real. I still play the music from this movie to this day. - West Side Story
While I am excited for the new take on the classic, West Side Story still is one of my all-time favorites. I love everything about this film, from the music to the story to the performances, what’s not to love about it.
